Not answering someone directly because you don’t feel like answering them or because you don’t want them to know.

Example:

Person1: “Where did you go today?”
Person2: “Somewhere.”

depends on what you were doing or where you were… if i say “where were you today” and you were at a hotel with a prostitute but said “somewhere” then obviously we’re going to have a problem. but if you’re trying to hide something for the persons own good like say, if you were throwing me a surprise birthday party and you didnt want me to know, then you’re ok.! 😉 but in all seriousness i would say just always answer truthfully. st patrick answered everything truthfully and it sometimes got him in trouble ( i often envision this: does my breath smell? yes lucy it does… well i say!) but no one could ever pin anything on him or accuse him of lieing because, well, he never did! and people could trust him for always telling the truth. is it a sin to indirectly answer a question? well, i would say depends. (see the first sentence for reference)

Not a sin unless the question comes from your parent (and you are a non-adult child living with them) or someone who actually needs to know. Also, “none of your business” or “I’d rather not talk about this” or “that’s personal”, etc… is a perfectly acceptable response if you don’t feel like answering a question from someone.

Geez, if that was the case, i’d be sinning on a daily basis as i’m normally vague with answers to generic questions like this.

Thank you for the responses.

It seems that 2 people think it depends on the situation for it to be a sin and 2 people think it’s not a sin.

Does anyone think it could ever be a mortal sin?

You really need to take this up with your RCIA instructor. I’m watclhing college basketball on CBS and surfing the net. Someone asks me what I did today and i’m going to say nothing. Tomorrow after work, if someone asks me how my day was at work and i’m going to reply “it was okay, just another day”, regardless of the type of day I really had.
