I was talking to my husband the other day and we were wondering is Roleplaying in the bedroom a sin?

So long as you’re not roleplaying something sinful, I can’t see why it would be.🤷

If it conjures the sense of the erotic, it seems to have more the character of lust than love.

Love is simply giving. Lust tends to put variations into the act. Maybe not. I’m not a priest, but role-playing has a kinky connotation to it.

Talking to a priest, following your conscience, and prayer are all sensible precautions to preserve your friendship with Christ. Pray for me, though. I could do with the prayers of seniors, as I am contemplating marriage for my own vocation.

If you are pretending you’re other people, that would be wrong.

If you are playing yourselves but in other roles/situations, then I would think that it may be OK.

But as red85 said, it seems to be verging towards lust. There’s nothing wrong with seeking pleasue in the marital embrace, but if you need to spice things up so much it may be making mere pleasure the goal more than intimacy. I think you need to consider why it is that you want to imagine different situations. Perhaps rather than working on making the sex more fun, there could be a need to work on intimacy in the relationship in general.

what roles were you intending to play?
We weren’t intending to do it ourselves. We had just been talking when I was looking through my Confession reflection app and were just wondering about it.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Many people here think that anyone having too much fun must be sinning.

just remember – no dancing and no rock and roll.

Another way of looking at this, apart from whether it is sinful, is whether it brings you and your spouse closer together. Speaking for myself, I have sometimes found it exciting to fantasize while making love, but later on I realize my mind was a million miles away, and that’s not good because I really want to be close to my wife. Other times, we make up a story and share a fantasy. So I would say role-playing is all right if you are both in it together, sharing the same fantasy while loving each other in real life. I hope that makes sense!
