I am in a dilemma. I am praying for something to not happen. In this thing not happening, I would benefit only in that certain things would not change. But someone else would not benefit for the same reason.

I know this doesn’t make much sense, but I don’t want to go into specifics on-line. I’m kind of “stuck” in the situation. The other person, however, could do something to benefit him/herself without changing my situation.

My question is this. Is it a sin, or is it wrong to pray for something like this?

I’m sorry this is worded in such an ambiguous way, but I hope someone can understand and answer the question for me.

Hello,

As you know, your post is very ambiguous. I don’t think anyone can offer good advice without understanding the situation at all. That said, even if you provided us with every detail, it is not our place to judge the whether or not you are being sinful.

It sounds like you are in need of spiritual direction. Please talk with your priest, inside or outside of confession so that he can help you discern whether or not you have sinned on this occassion.

God bless you.

how about praying that God’s will be done in this situation, and that he give you, and all those affected by this situtation the grace to deal with it and to grow closer to him, no matter what happens.

Thank you, puzzleannie. I do always pray with the stipulation that “if it’s Your Will”. So I guess maybe in that, it wouldn’t be a sin. Just found out I’m not the only one who would be adversely affected by this either. At least two other people would be, though I’d be sort of stuck in the middle of it.

I’ve decided to pray for the person who could make things bad for several to be lead to where he wants to go anyway. To find a way to get there, and to get a good job he can hold down. That would solve everyone’s problems. So I’m praying for change for him, no change for us. If it’s God’s will. I think that’s a good thing. And I’m probably still not making sense, but this whole thing has several people upset…

Seeing someone we love very much leave is very hurtful. Loss is a part of life. Dealing with loss, even when it is only someone going from one city to another, or even getting married and leaving the house like a brother, sister or a friend we live with although sounds small is in fact a huge change in our lives and those who associate with them or live with them.

I suppose that God’s disciples had to deal with a lot of separation but found new brethren wherever they went. I suppose God was always with them, because thy look Him wherever they went. I hope your friend is escorted by Christ wherever he or she goes too. But most importantly I hope you find what God’s will is for you.

In Christ

Doxa

Pray for God’s Will to be done in your life, and for you to know even a glimpse of it. It means you accept God, all of him, and what he does with you, his child.

Dominus tui
