Would it count as breaking the seal of confession if the person who received it told someone else what their penance was?
Correct, the seal of confession does not apply to the penitent. He can reveal his penance, or his sins, to anyone he chooses. That does not mean that it is a good idea to do so.The Seal applies to the priest, not the penitent.
No! In our family we often discuss our confessions and penances.Would it count as breaking the seal of confession if the person who received it told someone else what their penance was?
+1The Seal applies to the priest, not the penitent.
Best brief response. The Seal applies to the priest, not the penitent.
The seal also applies to anyone who inadvertently overhears and anyone who provides translation services between priest and penitent, such as a sign language interpreter. The Seal applies to the priest, not the penitent.
I agree.Best brief response.
