It’s just practical common sense. If you are feeling an emotion, it’s reasonable to be aware of what triggered it and whether it’s a reasonable emotion or not, and whether it’s even related to the triggering event or is it based on a memory of something else.
Normal people engage in this sort of self-analysis all the time without stopping to think “is this a Christian or a secular philosophy?” There are some people who have difficulty gaining insight into their behavior, perhaps because the emotions associated with it are so strong that it clouds their rational mind, and they might go to a mental health professional to be helped to better understand themselves.
