Is this considered working on Sunday?

It is an act of charity.

If you are overly troubled by things like this, you should discuss them with your priest so that you can get a better sense of balance and perspective.

Thank you. That is what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure.

The prohibition from work on the Sunday has to do with your duties according to your state in life.

If you are a student, you are allowed to study and do homework on Sunday. Because fulfilling your duties, that would suffer if you neglected them, completely take precedence over Sunday rest. Ex) there is test tomorrow (Monday), you’ve studied some (Saturday), but want to study more to get better grade/grasp of subject (Sunday). As a student, your duty is to yourself for your education, the university for its trust in you, your parents for their money well spent and trust in you, and God for your soul’s welfare (no dishonesty, cheating, etc. e.g.) It would be perfectly accceptable to study for that test on Sunday.

It’s ‘unnecessary work’ that is forbidden on Sunday. Your Dad asking you to trim the bushes is unnecessary and can wait until the next day. Doing the dishes, however, shouldn’t wait, as it causes filth to appear on your things which is scandalous and disappointing.

However, I’ve learned that anything that you ‘do not mind’ doing on Sunday that is work, would be fine so long as your heart is in the right place, and you do not hate or dislike it.

Acts of charity are outside of the realm of responsibility and therefore do not factor into the Sunday prohibition on ‘unnecessary work.’ They are always fine and good to do.

All this I learned from a Catholic priest from the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.

God Bless You!

Yes, but in the sense that we are called to work. Working for extra money? No, we shouldn’t do that. Working to help others? Yes, we should. Keep up the good work!
