I was singing a song I really like by the band Fit For Rivals and the lyrics say “I’ll be dammed your righteous hand, oh you’ve got no room to stand, so come on mother f***er (***Sorry for the swear word), come on if you’re gonna hit me, hit me like a man”. I am suspicious of the lyrics because of when it says “righteous hand”. Does that mean a reference to God? I knew it my mind that it might be a reference to God, but I sang the lyrics anyway, is that considered disrespectful? And if it is, is it a mortal sin? Thanks to everyone in advance for responding!!! And sorry for all of the questions 😛

I doubt that this is a mortal sin. But you might want to stay away from songs with words like that in them. Even if no one else hears you sing this, it would still be a good idea to not do so. God hears you, and I don’t think He would care too much for it.

Thanks for your response, I’ll be sure to watch the kind of music I listen to 🙂

Since you know the lyrics are offensive, you might ask yourself what it is you like about this band “Fit For Rivals”. For example, is it their musical style, sound, etc.?

Perhaps there is a Christian band that has a similar style, sound – with a more “positive” message…

Just something to consider. Blessings.

Thanks for your response! I’ll look into Christian bands with the same sound 👍
