Is this gossiping?

I have a pro life Instagram account and sometimes I get some really nasty messages or comments from people who don’t agree. I sometimes post the messages, but I erase the persons name and don’t say who said it. Sometimes what they say is stupid and I give my rebuttal, but I don’t think that counts? Idk. So I know that gossiping can be a grave matter, but I don’t know if this would be gossiping? Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut!

Presuming that you are posting the messages for purposes of discussion of the content, and not just so you can make fun of the person or say bad things about them, then it’s not gossip. It’s discussion.

I’m not saying bad things. I usually just make memes out of what they say. I don’t know if that qualifies for making fun of?

If you’re not naming the person or describing them, it’s probably not gossip.

I’m not sure if making a meme is all that productive though. I guess it would depend on the meme.

With the memes: I think it’s more of me trying to point out how ridiculous it is to be pro choice or have some pro choice views. I never name the person. I think that would be crossing a line because who would want that permanently on an account? Especially when a person can change.

Someone at church picked up on something and embellished it. The pastor said it was gossip, although I don’t know. They could have been speculating on something or other and really did not know for sure and meant no harm. We have a lot of old people at our parish and they probably just like to hear themselves talk.

I don’t know if it is gossiping, but memes rarely help our cause. I love a good meme, but meme’s don’t usually change hearts.

I like posting them because it keeps it light. Sometimes I post them to clear something up. I’ll post a bunch of things that aren’t memes to debunk pro choice arguments. The memes are about common responses or arguments that pro choicers have. So if a make a meme about what one person said and don’t name them it doesn’t really target them and people don’t think it’s them. It just targets the common argument they are using.

Is it a closed group made up of your fellow pro-lifers? The problem becomes once the meme is out there even in a closed group it can spread like wild fire and be used in more mixed circles.

For example many of my Facebook friends like to post things about protecting seaturtles but not protecting human babies. This meme is based on a more elaborate argument, but the comparison is alltogether unconvincing to someone who disagrees. I find memes that argue against a screenshot of some anonymous person’s argument a little in poor taste. It feels kind of gotcha-ish. (Not directed at you, just the ones I have seen)

I agree they can lighten the mood.
