Is this guitar OK for mass?

Unless that guitar is really a cleverly disguised speaker which belts out gregorian chant, I wouldn’t bring it to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

That is a subjective opinion, even by Pope Pius X. If you listen to One Bread, One Body on guitar by John Michael Talbot, it is beautiful.
 
Just don’t play it like Marty McFly at the end of Back to the Future.
 
BTW, I would like some advice from other guitar players.

Currently, I have an Alvarez Yairi, which was a Japanese copy of the Martin D16.

This is a great guitar for flat picking and strumming, but finger style picking, the strings are a little close.

What are the better guitars for finger style picking?

A friend that I new long ago, had a Gretsch, custom made that I recall as being a good finger style guitar, but it was very expensive.

Any suggestions?

Beautiful wood. Very lovely guitar. On aesthetic grounds, it’s gorgeous!

I think this saint’s opinion is correct. Some forms of music are more inherently sacred than others. This is not a matter of taste - it’s a matter of a standard of objective sanctity which the guitar does not meet.

This merely your opinion and not shared throughout the Church, who has not prohibted the use of guitars at liturgical services.

Until they do, please stop trashing threads such as this.

I always find it amusing when people point out “that’s your opinion!”

I know it’s my opinion! It’s the right opinion, too.:rolleyes:
 
😃 That is a roomy guitar!

Jim. Many people like an OM for a versatile guitar (they usually come with a 1 3/4 inch nut; yours is probably 1 11/16 as are most dreadnought-style guitars). They fingerpick and strum well. I actually prefer to go a little wider still but you often have to have a custom job for that. I have a guitar (a Dave King parlour) with close to 1 7/8 which is superb for fingerstyle but you can’t strum it because the string spacing at the bridge is very wide.
