My cousin posted a photo on facebook of her in a surgical mask. On the mask is written “Merry “expletive” X-mas”. This seems sacrilegious to me. My mother saw it as well and we are both upset.
It’s more low class than sacrilegious. Disgusting and tactless as well.My cousin posted a photo on facebook of her in a surgical mask. On the mask is written “Merry “expletive” X-mas”. This seems sacrilegious to me. My mother saw it as well and we are both upset.
I don’t know how close you are to her-but I strongly reccomend not saying anytthing to her at Christmas. Not the time, nor the place. It’s a joyous event-save that stuff for later.Yes, I agree it is low class. She recently started seeing this guy and has gotten more and more crass since then. This is just the latest in such behavior. I have thought of deleting her from my friend’s list. She and I are both going to be at my parents’ for Christmas, and maybe I’ll kindly say something about it to her.

Just my opinion.
Real sacrilege is the irreverent treatment of sacred things as distinguished from places and persons. This can happen first of all by the administration or reception of the sacraments (or in the case of the Holy Eucharist by celebration) in the state of mortal sin, as also by advertently doing any of those things invalidly. Indeed deliberate and notable irreverence towards the Holy Eucharist is reputed the worst of all sacrileges. Likewise conscious maltreatment of sacred pictures or relics or perversion of Holy Scripture or sacred vessels to unhallowed uses, and finally, the usurpation or diverting of property (whether movable or immovable) intended for the maintenance of the clergy or serving for the ornamentation of the church to other uses, constitute real sacrileges. Sometimes the guilt of sacrilege may be incurred by omitting what is required for the proper administration of the sacraments or celebration of the sacrifice, as for example, if one were to say Mass without the sacred vestments.
Or you can put them on your “Ignore” list. I’ve done that with a few younger nieces and nephews who still think vulgarity makes them seem “cool” or something. That way I don’t have to read their icky posts, yet avoid them feeling hurt or annoyed by outright unfriending them.It is certainly disrespectful of Christmas, if nothing else. If you would like a way to peacefully protest, you could remove her from your friends list.
Ew, ick, very tacky! My cousin posted a photo on facebook of her in a surgical mask. On the mask is written “Merry “expletive” X-mas”. This seems sacrilegious to me. My mother saw it as well and we are both upset.
it is a sacrilege and if a relative sent such a message to me I would respond that since they chose to deliberately insult my religion, and therefore me and my family, I no longer regard them as a correspondent, friend or whatever you call people you invite into your social network, virtual or real.My cousin posted a photo on facebook of her in a surgical mask.
