I would never said I have been a person to particular struggle with over scrupulosity but some recent thoughts have made me wonder if a certain thought process is due to over scrupulosity.
For example at times I may be resentful of the sacrifice of personal time that is required from me due to family needs or work. I then realize that I should not be resentful and should be grateful for the opportunity to be with family and have the opportunity to work. This makes me feel increasingly guilty about being resentful at all and I become fearful that God will condemn me for being initially resentful and may take away those things (such as family or the opportunity to work) due to insufficient gratitude.
Another example was at Christmas Mass. Due to overcrowding my family had to be in the overflow parish hall. I was very much looking forward to Christmas mass and was resentful that we could not be in the church proper and get to enjoy the beautiful liturgy. Of course I know I should be grateful that I had the opportunity to go to mass at all since some people don’t have the opportunity and be glad so many people were going to mass but I was just sitting there mad about the situation. As a result I soon became fearful about what God must think about my thoughts of anger.
I know that God probably doesn’t work that way as seen in Scripture such as: "For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. " (Jer 29:11) but I worry I may become fearful of God in the wrong way. Anyone have any thoughts?
