From this website I get the idea that the Feast can be transfered to Sunday for the Traditional Mass as it can for the Novus Ordo. (see the note in red at the top of the page) Does anyone know if this has been done?

Second Sunday After Pentecost
Sunday Within the Octave of Corpus Christi

I just like to know because I print off the Propers from this website so I can have the English to use in addition to the red Latin Mass missals they hand out at Church which don’t include the Propers (besides the ones for Trinity Sunday I mean).

At my TLM chapel, the Feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated today, but it will also be celebrated with a procession for the first mass this Sunday.

Some Bishops decided to transfer the Feast of Corpus Christi to Sunday. This, as I understand it, is in force in North America, England and a few places in Europe.

In Rome you can be sure that Pope Benedict XVI celebrated Corpus Christi today, Thursday the 7th, with the traditional procession.

The TLM, should not be following this change.

At St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis (ICK), according to last Sunday’s bulliten, today’s morning Low Mass was for Corpus Christi and this coming Sunday will be the “External Solemnity of Corpus Christi” - I’m guessing the propers will be the same (wasn’t there this morning), but with this Sunday’s 10am Mass being a Solemn High Mass with Benediction and Procession.

So it looks like it wasn’t “transferred” exactly, but celebrated both today, and in a more solemn public manner again on Sunday.

Peace in Christ,

Shrine of Christ the King, which is staffed by the priests of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest here in Chicago, are doing the same thing as in St. Louis. They offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass today for the feast of Corpus Christi and will do so again on Sunday at both Low and High Masses.

I would call the church and ask them if they are going to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Sunday for the feast of Corpus Christi. I believe they probably will do that but I’d call just to make sure.

St. Francis de Sales in Atlanta is doing the same–feast today and external solemnity on Sunday.

in accord with the latin rite (pre vat.ii) of the catholic church’s calender the feast of corpus christi was celebrated on june 7, 2007. this sunday, june 10 is known as the sunday within an octave of corpus christi (aka: the 2nd sunday after pentecost) have a good year. (alih)👍

In our diocese, it will be celebrated on Sunday and our parish has an outdoor procession planned stopping at several side altars during the procession for a service.

The Tridentine indult specifies that the 1962 missal and kalendar are to be used. The octave of Corpus Christi was suppressed in 1955; hence the “pre vat II” rite, according to the 1962 missal, does not include an octave for feasts other than Easter, Pentecost and Christmas.

Are we obligated in the U.S. to attend the Corpus Christi Mass? If I go to the Latin Mass as per usual and it is not the Feast of Corpus Christi Mass, would I then be obligated to attend the Novus Ordo Corpus Christi Mass later in the day?

This Sunday can be the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi at the TLM. It goes back to an indult, never resinded(sp?), granted to the U.S. by Pope Leo XIII. This information I got from the Ordos published by both the F.S.S.P. and the S.S.P.X.
The F.S.S.P. Ordo says: “Permission to observe the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi on the following Sunday is granted to the United States by indult of Pope Leo XIII.”

Someone is missing something here. It is no longer the feast of “Corpus Christi”. Some years ago, it was changed to the feast of “The body and Blood of Jesus”. At that time the feast of Corpus Christi and the feast of the Precious Blood (July 1) were joined to better express the unity of the body and blood in the Eucharist. So celebrate the feast of “Corpus et Sanguinis Christi” when local custom specifies.
Side note: There are ten universal feasts that are considered Holy Days of obligation for the universal Church. Most countries do not celebrate all of them. Most of the feasts not celebrated as Holy Days are moved to Sunday–but not all are; e.g. in the U.S, the feast of Peter and Paul Apostles.

Pope leads Corpus Christi observance

Rome, Jun. 8, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) celebrated Mass on the plaza in front of the basilica of St. John Lateran on Thursday evening, June 7, for the feast of Corpus Christi.

Pope Benedict led the procession in an open vehicle, kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament displayed in a monstrance. Behind him thousands of people joined in prayers and hymns as they walked. Various fraternities and parish groups carried banners as they marched, and buildings along the route were decorated with Eucharistic banners, added to the colorful procession.

In his homily the Pope recalled that the feast of Corpus Christi was instituted as a testimony to the faith of Catholics “in Jesus Christ, living and truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.” This mystery, he said, is “beyond our understanding, and we should not be surprised if even today many people struggle” with the Catholic dogma.

You mean if you don’t celebrate Corpus Christi on Thursday, go to a non-Corpus Christi TLM on Sunday, do you have to go the the NO Corpus Christi?

It is one of those things that hasn’t been thought through. You should attend a Mass of Corpus Christi. However to require two Masses on the same day doesn’t seem very sensible or reasonable.

Doesn’t the canon say that the obligation is fufilled at any Catholic rite? And our Eastern brethren don’t celebrate Corpus Christi, so…

whoops!!! looksl like a simple question brought up a difference in thinking. the united states conference of catholic bishops within the last few years declared that: do to falling attendence on what had been “holy days of obligation” the holy day would, in most cases be transferred to the next or closest sunday.
the 1962 missal is quite controversial with pius x group and other independant catholics. therefore, it would be found, in most cases, that the 62 missal is not used and the feast days remain as they had been over the many years. have a good year. (alih)👍

Do you mean the Society of St. Pius X? In addition to the F.S.S.P. Ordo, I get the S.S.P.X. one every year. The S.S.P.X. one starts out with:
“This Ordo is for the use of Roman Catholic clergy who celebrate Mass and the Divine Office in accordance with the rubrics established by Pope John XXIII in Rubricarum instructum on 25 July 1960. The decree simplified the rubrics and encoded the largly calendar changes previously approved by Pope Pius XII. The 1960 to 1963 liturgical editions of the Missal and Breviary incorporated the new rubrics.”
At the bottom of the same page it says:
“Contrary to the assertions of some persons, there is nothing substantially diferent between earlier versions of the Missal/Breviary and the 1962 editions. Nothing contrary to the traditional Roman Catholic Faith is either contained or insinuated in the 1962 Missal and Breviary.”

I can not speak of the actual practise of any of the S.S.P.X. priests, but the above, since it is in the Ordo they publish, seems to be the society’s official position.

from a personal prospective i find discussions such as this, more than somewhat distastefull in-as-much as i see a repudiation of over 1900 or more years of traditional church teaching and history being revised. it is my understanding that the f s s p was formed as an alternative to pius x. f s s p originally was founded on the premise of them being allowed to say, what is called, the tridentine mass using the 1962 missal. they were also authorized to elect their own head. this was subsequently rescinded by the vatican who mandated that they also say the n.o. service if that would be the desire of any of their clergy. the vatican also rescinded the rule allowing them to elect their own head. as for pius x, it is my understanding that one of their sticking points with the vatican is the use of the 62 missal.
it is my hope that one day that these problems will be positively resolved. have a good year. (alih) 👍

You are not obligated to go to Mass for the feast of the Ascension in most dioceses in the United States.

Now, before anyone tells me I’m wrong, I’ll explain.

If you go to the Traditional Latin Mass the Sunday after the Ascension you have fulfilled your Sunday obligation. You are not required to go to the Novus Ordo Mass for the Ascension. So, if you don’t go to Ascension Thursday Mass in the Traditional rite, you haven’t committed a sin since it’s not a holy day. Since going to the TLM satisifies your Sunday obligation, you can go to one the Sunday after the Ascension.

See, this is how a Catholic can avoid the feast of the Ascension without committing a sin.
