I’ve seen a lot of shirts in stores like Nordstroms, Active, etc., lately that have shown religious art. I’m just wondering if buying these shirts with controversial pictures on them is the right or wrong thing to do.

…this shirt in particular has me wondering.

Ooops, likes like advertising? You surely don’t mean to risk that banning offense! Delete if you still can.

It shows a page of caps and shirts for sale when I click on the link, nothing unchristian or controversial, just caps and shirts.

oops sorry. try the new link. These shirts are being sold in mainstream department stores across the nation.

I’d want to know the translation of the Arabic but other than that I don’t know why a T-shirt like this would be wrong. I’d wear something like that.
…Right? I almost bought it today but then I thought about what the art was actually depicting. Also. I thought the original painting of the 3 represented the holy Trinity -and holding a diamond like that, I’m just not sure if its “good” or not. or if its just a personal judgment thing. 🤷

I’ve never been very good at understanding art -as far as understanding what pictures mean or ‘represent’.

Sorry. I hadn’t seen the second example and I edited my answer. The painting is by William Bougeureau and he’s a favorite of mine so I had a pretty strong reaction to it (a negative one).

I wonder if you could make your own? I’ve heard quality custom T-shirts are becoming pretty affordable and available through online sites like Zazzle or Cafepress or others. That way you could choose the religious images you like and leave out the “other” stuff.

Thats a great idea! 👍

I think so. It seems to be making fun of the original pieces of artwork.

It’s taking images and replacing Christ with a diamond! So, it’s having the angels worshipping a diamond? That a diamond is being honored in heaven! I wouldn’t buy, or wear, a T-shirt like any of those.

In fact, I have a calendar that, I think, has one of those images on it, taken from the original that is. I’d pass on those distortions.

If in doubt, don’t. Only buy, and promote, pure and holy things. If you’re gut instinct is telling you it’s not good, questionable, better to err on the side of caution.

We are only to honor God, the saints, angels. To replace them with idols is in violation of the First Commandment.

The “meaning” of the diamond:

“Diamond Supply Co. is a California based skateboard clothing line that was started in 1998 by skateboarder/designer Nick Tershay AKA Nick Diamond.”

Unless you are looking to tell people “I’m a skateboarder” there’s probably no good reason for you to buy these shirts 😛

My “rule” is: “If in doubt, do not buy it!” It is like “If in doubt, throw it out!” for food.

I have four “Religious” T-shirts. My favorite:
Front: A view looking up from under water (with fish rocks, seaweed) of a man with robes and sandals walking on water. It reads “Get out of the boat!”
**Back: ** “With man this impossible but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19-26” It leaves no doubt!

You may buy a plain T-shirt and use the “decal” transfers available at Staples or Office Depot (with full instructions) to print your artwork (from your computer) and then press it on to the T-shirt. If you know silkscreen, you may use that method – or even paint it yourself free hand if you have that gift.

I can try and get for you the name of the company that puts them out if you want it and PM me.

Best of luck!

Havard for the win. 👍

My main objection would be that these are both religious works that replace Jesus with the company’s logo.

Here is an icon that the second linked t-shirt image appears to be based off. In the company’s image they have taken the image of Christ out of the circle and replaced it with a diamond.

Given that the image of Christ is replaced in both shirts I would have to question a company that replaces Christ with their own logo.

EDIT: It looks like there is a third shirt that does the same thing on the site so it seems to be very purposeful.

Yes. There is a picture of the Holy Eucharist being raised up -but rather than it being the Body of Christ, it’s a diamond… Again.
