I was reading this
" each church defines the scope of the “Catholic Church” differently. For instance, the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox churches each maintain that their own denomination is the only original and universal church, from which all other churches broke away"

So is this true are the eastern orthodox and oriental orthodox in commuion wit us and so part of the one true holy apocalyptic Church ?

Thanks chuck

The Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox are not in communion with us. There are some Eastern Christians who are in fact in communion with the rest of us. They are called the Eastern Catholics.

Really, every Christian community claims to be either the entirety of the Catholic Church or at least a part of the Catholic Church. Some Protestant denominations prefer to use a lowercase “c” (“catholic church” or “catholic Church”), and some even avoid the word entirely and use synonymous terms, but it all works out the same. Obviously, if you believed that your ecclesial community was not at least part of the one true Body of Christ you would not stay in it. That some people stay in these communities shows that they believe these communities to be Catholic, whether or not they use the word.

Of course, outside the actual Catholic Church they are wrong in their conclusion, to some degree or other.

I think it is because there is confusion as to who broke away from whom! Each has his own view. Pray that our separated brethren are united as One, which is as God intended.

I think the way to determine the original Church established by Jesus is to see which Church is headed by the one who holds the “power of the keys” - the Church headed by the successor of Peter to whom the power of the keys has been passed on. This power was given to Peter alone and it was power over Jesus’ Church ( “…My Church…” Mt 16:19) - Jesus’ Church which was to include all people (universal/catholic). Historical records show it is the Catholic Church that is headed by Peter’s successor. It is the Catholic Pope who claims to hold the universal “power of the keys”. To my knowledge, no other church (including orthodox separated from Rome) even claims to hold the power of the keys that was originally given to Peter and handed on to his successors. In other words, the various orthodox churches do not trace their head patriarch’s record of succession back to a legitimate appointment as popeafter the death of the last man they accepted as Pope (Peter’s valid successor)

Mt 16:18-19 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
