Today at my friend’s house, I saw a sign that said LONE STAR PRIDE. The word pride beckoned at me like never before. I suddenly thought “is that a sin”?! In Texas, you always hear “TEXAS PRIDE” or many schools have their own shirts with a mention of pride for the school. Is this type of pride a sin? I am very confused about this. Thank You

Peace be with you

Selfish pride such as I do not nead your help or want it is a sin. Being boastfull of an acclomplishment by rubbing it in or taking all the credit or leaving out God’s well deserved thanks is a sin.
Having pride in who you are and giving thanks to God for it is not a sin.
Are you proud to be a child of God?
Is God proud of you when you do what is right for someone else?
It is never wrong to be proud in anything good, just remmember that we can not do anything without God.
Giving out awards for personal achievments for example
may or may not be sin depending on whether or not you are thanking all involved.

I was so pridefull and indepentant (so I thought)when I was younger that I would not even ask for a glass of water when I was thursty or take a glass when offerd.
God broke me of that habbit the hard way.

Then I decided that I would not take credit or recognition at all for anything I did because I thought it to be boastful. Then I found that we need to be recconized for things we do in order for others to come to rely on us for help.

It is selfish pride that is sinfull.
Include God in all that you do and it will be harder to boast and have selfish pride.

Peace be with you

We normally use pride in our common terms but the actual vice is hubris and that is what is sinnful.
