I started the application process for preformation with the Institute of Christ the King Soveriegn Priest last month and have been talking with the ICRSS Vicar General and Superior of the American Province. I really want to enter the ICRSS.

The traditional Latin Mass I attend (and now serve at) is offered by priests of the Fraternity of St. Peter. Recently I have been invited by the FSSP priests to go with them and a group of young men from their Oratory over Spring Break (some teens get drunk on the beach during Spring Break / I visit Seminaries… lol). We will get to see the Ordinations for the Diaconate and Subdiaconate there.

Is it right for me to visit the FSSP seminary even though I want to enter the ICRSS?

ask some one over at the IC. tell them that you want to go with the FSSP. by the way, God bless you for your calling to be a priest!!!

Oh Lord, grant us holy priests, oh Lord, grant us many holy priests!

Oh Lord, please look after this young man on his way to the priesthood. guard him, and protect him all the days of his life.

Yes it is. Even after you apply you still have the right to talk to other groups. I would say that after you enter formation that you should refrain from doing this.

Look at it this way. Maybe this is the movement of the Holy Spirit.

What I think is that it is good to talk to more than just one group, even to visit more than one group.

In my case, I spoke with 4 orders and two eparchies (diocese). One of the orders I spoke with while I was working on the application for the Carmelites. I did this at the urging of an acquaintance who belongs to that order.

I would say go, and if the ICRSS is the place for you then that is where you will end up, if not then you won’t. If you do tell the ICRSS about it and they seem upset or forbid it then I would take that as a big red flag.

One of the reasons I wish to visit the FSSP seminary (besides keeping my options open) is to see a traditional seminary. I know that the ICRSS invites applicants to visit their seminary near Florence, but such a trip is not quite within my financial abilities at the moment (although I am hoping to see the ICRSS ordinations in St. Louis in June).

Anyway, I agree with you here. I should keep my options open and explore differant vocations.

Thank you Marilena 🙂

I don’t think it’s wrong. But I do think that if you are in serious conversation with ICRSS that you should tell them you are planning on visiting the FSSP.
