I am new to this forum and a little confused about where/how to post my question. I have not been active in the Catholic church for many years, although my faith in God and Jesus has never waivered. I am considering returning to the church. I can understand the rationale for many things that others might question, such as birth control, etc. But I suppose the one thing I am concerned about, and have never seen addressed, is that I have read in the bible that we are not to call anyone on earth Father. That title is reserved for God. I do not even address my birth father as father. Can anyone explain to me why priests should be addressed as Father when this seems contrary to scripture? Does this not invite the potential for mis-perception? and falsely elevating priests to the level of God?
