Is using my fingers as Rosary beads ok? Or do I need a actual Rosary?

Fingers are okay. But I usually lost count using fingers. Better use a rosary to be safe.

Fingers are fine. But I tend to lose count, also!

Someone once pointed out to me that (blessed) rosaries are sacramentals. So it’s nice to incorporate whatever sacramentals appeal to us in our lives— whether it’s praying with blessed rosary beads, or using holy water, or whatever else.

Sometimes we can’t afford the fancy $50-$100 rosaries that look so pretty in the gift shop. Sometimes all we can afford is the glow-in-the-dark plastic rosary someone once gave us as a gift. 🙂 And that’s okay, too.

I remember the anecdote about Bernadette, during the Lourdes apparitions. One of the townspeople wanted Bernadette to pray with her own personal pretty rosary during one of the apparitions. But when Mary appeared, she took the time to tell Bernadette to put away the other person’s rosary, and pull out her own (knotted cord?) rosary, and lead the prayers with that.

So the thing isn’t so much the fanciness of the rosary, but the love you put into your prayers.

Fingers are fine. You just need to figure out your own system that works for you, such at holding your thumb to a finger as you say the prayer or something along those lines. Sometimes I think of saying a rosary where I hadn’t planned to, and don’t have one with me at the moment.

I sometimes pray the rosary by looking at the numbers on the number pad of the elliptical machine at the gym. I’ll also do it in my head sometimes. Just keep the number of the bead you’re on firmly in you imagination as you go.

My keeping track correctly on beads is the exception, rather than the rule. My fingers are far more accurate!

(OK, maybe if I had a rosary with beads the size of marbles, each an inch apart, but . . .)

on a normally sized rosary, maybe 1 in 4 or 5 times I come out to ten at the same time as the leader . . .

If you’re able to pull it off using only your fingers, more power to you! You have my sincere admiration.

I use my fingers every day. Rosary is in my pocket, but often I’m doing other things with my hands (like driving) while praying my rosary throughout the day.
If I think I’ve lost count then I err on the side of praying an extra Hail Mary to get me back on track. I think I pray a lot of extra Hail Mary’s that way every day, but that’s cool. 😎

It’s totally fine,

Filling up stock troughs…no worries pray the Rosary using anything available to count.

Admiration? This really comes down to my lack of coordination interacting with large fingers and little beads! (they kind of shoot to the side when I squeeze them . . . whereas with fingers, I just fold a finger each time a Hail Mary starts [and still miss more than I want to admit ])
