Is working at a fertility clinic wrong?

I’m very worried about my cousin who is also a Catholic. She is currently working at a fertility clinic as a lab technician. I know that as a Catholic in vitro fertilization is wrong. Is it also wrong for her to be working at the clinic?

I know that since she is a lab tech, she is taking part in creating the embryo. If it is wrong, can you explain why? I’ve tried to search for Catholic documents about in vitro, but none have said anything about the ones doing the medical procedures. I’ve tried to talk to her about it, but she still does not think that what she is doing is wrong. What should I tell her?

yes what you describe is grave matter for mortal sin…so no she can not do this.

Even if she wasn’t taking part in creating the embryos (i.e. she was the receptionist or something), I think it would be wrong to work at a fertility clinic because of scandal. A Catholic shouldn’t give the appearance of condoning or benefiting from something immoral, right? I would approach it that way.

why don’t you try printing out the documents and having her read them? It may help her to understand why the Church forbids fertility therapy. Learning WHY things are done instead of being told to just do as your told, sometimes helps make people want to be compliant.

IIRC, there are some fertility treatments that are allowed by the Church. Surly IVF and the processes that lead to it are against the teachings of the Church. But I believe hormone therapy and other procedures are allowed. Maybe you can help her research it?
