Islam claims that Christianity (like Judasim) is “a religion of the Book.”

True or False?

Islam also mentions one Gospel.
There are four Gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

There was a common book that harmonized the four accounts into one book popular in the Middle East but it was not scripture.

If it is wrong about what book Christians used, I can’t say that it knew anything but some really basic/dumbed down tenants of true Christianity.

True… (but any importance for today has been abrogated by other later verses.)
But under sharia, if you are a “person of the ‘book’”…

  1. *]you may still be called to convert to islam (iraq) with consequences
*]You are dhimmi and will have less legal and cultural status, (and pay extra taxes).(pakistan, egypt, iran etc.)
*]Your churches will fall into disrepair (egypt)
*]If you believe in the Trinity and it is discovered, you may be accused of being actually a pagan and forfeit the right to be a dhimmi (fatal unless you convert to islam).

Muhammad adopted the belief of some Judeo-Christian converts in Arabia who abided by the Law of Moses as Jews must do and believed in Jesus as the Messiah but that they must follow the old Law as taught in Judaism not as it was re-interpreted by the apostles. These Judeo-Christians are called people of the book because they abide by the book of Moses and the book of Jesus they compiled, not the apostles’ gospels or letters. So no Muhammad is wrong as were the previously mentioned sects.

Muhammad and Islam is a bad copycat of Judaism and Christianity.

actually it a the belief of Jewish-Christian sects that rejected the disciples’ interpretation of the New Law vs the Old Law…they were so stuck with Moses’ law that they couldn’t bear what the apostles taught about it ( refer to acts where such people created problems to the apostles). These people’s doctrines, with time and alienation, departed largely from the orthodox teachings and created a religion of their own, selecting gospels that suit their belief. Islam did not drop from nowhere, all its beliefs are traced back to different Jewish-Christian sects, out of communion with all the orthodox churches (except temporary marriages and a dozen women as a gift to a prophet that can be traced to nothing but Muhammad’s desire to satisfy himself and his men). In other words, Islam adopts heretic Christian teachings. This is not an opinion, it is a fact written in many books by different people who can trace all quranic doctrines to the Jewish-Christian sects of Arabia. Take the example of the crucifixion. It is gnostic.

In the sense it is meant, it’s false.

The Koran in Islam is taken to be a dictated, rather than inspired, book, and says what it says statically, like a dead letter.

Holy Scripture is part of the Deposit of the Faith, and that’s a very different concept.

Gerry

Christianity is not the Religion of the Book.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

105 God is the author of Sacred Scripture. "The divinely revealed realities, which are contained and presented in the text of Sacred Scripture, have been written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit."69

"For Holy Mother Church, relying on the faith of the apostolic age, accepts as sacred and canonical the books of the** Old and the New Testaments, whole and entire, with all their parts, on the grounds that, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit**, they have God as their author, and have been handed on as such to the Church herself."70

106 God** inspired the human authors of the sacred books**. "To compose the sacred books, God chose certain men who, all the while he employed them in this task, made full use of their own faculties and powers so that, though he acted in them and by them, it was as true authors that they consigned to writing whatever he wanted written, and no more."71

107 The inspired books teach the truth. "Since therefore all that the inspired authors or sacred writers affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully, and without error teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the Sacred Scriptures."72

108 Still, the Christian faith is not a “religion of the book.” Christianity is the religion of the “Word” of God, a word which is “not a written and mute word, but the Word which is incarnate and living”. 73 If the Scriptures are not to remain a dead letter, Christ, the eternal Word of the living God, must, through the Holy Spirit, "open [our] minds to understand the Scriptures."74

Catholics need to make this very clear. As for Non-Catholic Christians, I don’t know if they agree with that statement made from the Catechism.

The answer is both true and false. Many muslims believe that the Christianity of old is the religion of the book, not the Christianity of the present which they think believes in 4 Gods (Father, Son, HS & the Mother of God), and that bows down before idols.

True Islam makes that claim, false that it is a legitimate claim.

It is the only way it (Islam/Mohamed) can associate the past prophets and therefore to the God of Abraham to itself. If it did not make such a claim it would easily be dismissed. Like Momonism, Islam could not exist without the words that came before.

The same could be said for Christianity with respect to Judaism with one glaring exception. The truth of Judaism’s fullfillment in Christ.

Abraham was spared sacrificing Isaac as God provided the ram in his place.

God gave the Israelites bread from Heaven and water from the Earth after striking a rock with Moses’ staff to sustain them in the desert after leaving Egypt.

Almost 2000 years later God summarized all past Covenants in Christ from the physical to the spiritual because we cannot maintain the spiritual even when given the physical.

Jesus is the sacrifical lamb, the mana from Heaven, and the water of Life.

Islam falsely wraps itself in the idea of the Word without abiding by it. It’s claim to be of it should be dismissed.

If Muslims really believed Christianity is a religion from the book and that book is valid then they wouldnt be Muslims, they would be Christians. because we all know that isnt the case then you can say that claim is false.

Well if I cared what Moslems said then I’d be Moslem.

well since they claim the book is corrupt , then:

we are the people of the corrupt book

or

we are the people of the uncorrupt Book that disappeared off the planet (maybe sahara camels ate all the copies)

or

we *were *the people of the book but not anymore because we corrupted it, hence Allah shouldn’d have called us as such in the first place.

or

we are the people of the book that Allah, the Powerful and Just , could not preserve.

Hi

I think you are correct.

The present Catholicism does not believe what Jesus and Mary, both Jews, believed.

Thanks

That dog won’t hunt.

“Catholicism” is a none-too-attractive designation for the faith of the Church. The head of the Church is her founder, Jesus Christ, and by “head” we mean not CEO, but head as in head on a body, his mystical body. The notion that the faith of the Church is not what Jesus believed is preposterous. And his mother was his greatest disciple.

And as for the notion that Jesus believed as did the Jews of his time, the Gospels indicate that just isn’t so. Religious Jews were constantly picking bones with him, and in the end, conspired to crucify him.

Blessings,

Gerry

Paarsurrey believes that Jesus and Mary were Muslims and believed Islam. More of the unhistorical garbage taught in Islam where Mary is confused with Miriam, the sister of Moses. Thus Moses is Jesus uncle. ???

Sincerely,

De Maria
