Our Islamic fasting month starts tonight for around 29-30 days (ends August 29-30 depending on the lunar phase), we must abstain of all foods and drinks from dawn to dusk.

Here is a typical Ramadan in Saudi Arabia and most Arabian peninsula countries:
  1. Work shorten to 5 hours for government jobs and 6 hours for private sector jobs.
  2. Productivity during morning drops to 10% at the best case scenario.
  3. Most people sleep in the morning and spend the night partying by having many meals after dawn then another one before dusk (although few would spend the night pray extra prayers).
  4. Ramada is highly targeted by the entertainment companies for TV shows and ads, it’s the most profitable month for them, therefore you would see a massive amount of ads in the newspaper advertising the show times and channels names.
Simply we have turned this month from presumably being “Islamic holymonth” to “Islamic holiday” !!!

I think I will fast ramadan , since my young brother living with me , I don’t want to eat and drink in front of him and upset him lol

but I will offer it to the Lord

So theres two meals? I always thought it was one evening meal?

Basically, Muslims abstain from food, drink (including water), tobacco, and sex during the daylight hours of Ramadan, and then party for much of the time between sunset and sunrise. I was in Damascus during one Ramadan years ago, and you did not want to be on the streets near sunset. The locals would run you OVER in their hurry to get home.

I’m waiting to see whether the mujahiddeen will also abstain from violence, at least during the daylight hours of Ramadan. If you look closely, you’ll see that I am not holding my breath.

and sex during the daylight hours of Ramadan,
Do not count on that ;), Muhammed used to French-kiss his wives during Ramadan daylight http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon13.gif per authentic hadiths:

Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 13, Number 2380 + Musnad Ahmeed:*
Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin:
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) used to kiss her and suck her tongue when he was fasting.*(E)

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 150:
*Narrated Hisham’s father:
Aisha said, “Allah’s Apostle used to kiss some of his wives while he was fasting,” and then she smiled. *(E)

Sahih Muslim, Book 006, Number 2445:
*'A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) used to kiss her during the month of fasting. *(E)

Is that acceptable behaviour of what he calls himself a prophet!!!

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but did you reverse dawn and dusk? If they have many meals after dawn, they would be eating in the daylight hours…

Last summer, I had an internship where I met a guy who was very seriously devout and prayerful during this time. I guess I assumed that many others were as well, but that may have been silly of me. :o

Kul 'am wa enta bi-khair!
Thank you sister in Christ :).

:blessyou:

oops…, yes, thank you, I guess that was a low concentration of me because of my fasting!, it should read like this:
*3) Most people sleep in the morning and spend the night partying by having many meals after dusk then another one before dawn (although few would spend the night pray extra prayers).

Maybe those in the western countries, but that is not the case here…

Hi Sam

If you have time, can you please return to this thread.

I want to know & understand what is this belief with Islam that allah has satan locked up for the 30 days during Ramadan and after Ramadan is over, allah releases satan.

Or on that note, any muslim returning here can perhaps answer that.

Thank much!

Sam… (et al)

I also wanted to mention about the hadith:

Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the Heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.” (Bukhari)

I know about the above hadith, but is there anything in the koran stating this “chaining of satan” during Ramadan…?
