Isn't the evidence enough?

Just sharing.
2 - 3 years ago I was doubting the existence of God. That is, I almost lost my Faith after being baptized for 4 years. (2-3years ago) Because I wasn’t raised a Catholic and believed when my friend told me about Catholicism. The only “evidence” that time for me was “Bible”.

Then I was started to think what if Bible was a fiction, a myth or a story made by a very clever scholars to scare humans to behave properly. Even if Jesus son of Joseph ever existed on Earth, are the testimony by the witnesses real or not. What are the evidence that Jesus ever lived, let alone Moses, Abraham, and other biblical ‘characters’?

This shook my faith deeply.

Even though I manage to the list of Popes, the precedors of Pope Benedict XVI to St. Peter, I still have doubt about Catholic Church. The Father of the Church can write anything they want, but what is the prove of Christianity?
When I know there’s four missing Popes in the list, I started to doubt the continuous succession as claimed.

Modern Miracles were “disproved” by scientist, such as the “miracles of the sun” and the “Turin’s Shroud” by carbon dating. Visions of Our Lady were disclaimed as “devil”.

I know, I’m a real ‘Doubting Thomas’. Today, my Faith is back and I really can’t wait to live in Charity when I earned my own salary (I’m still a student now).

I faith on Christianity is restored today, and I still choose Catholic Church.
For me, there are many evidence that Christianity is real religion and every evidence supports Catholic Church.

here are the few evidences:
  1. Document on the list of precedors of Pope Benedict XVI till St. Paul.
  2. Some of the Apostles lived together with the Early Church Fathers. One notable figure is St. Ignatius of Antioch, lived in 35- 110 AD, was a student of Apostle John.
If these evidences wasn’t enough, how about miracles captured by videos?

There are many, many videos on youtube, about Holy Communion bleeding either in the Host, or after being put into someone’s mouth. The blood was sent and is always found that the bloodtype was AB. This is by far the most beautiful peace of evidence.

Another side evidence is the testimony of different people who experienced Near Death Experience, I report similar visions, that is "out of the sense of time and space, can see how other people feel by looking at them, hearing a very peaceful voice and Judgement by our Lord, from first commandment to tenth commandment and during the judgement, the ‘witness’ claim that they are as if watching a secular movie, a replay of their entire life and the feeling caused by them to others.

So what is more that people trying to disprove? the Youtube website is accessible by everyone now.

Peace.

The problem is that there are popularizations of various situations that use “cherry picking” so that they deliberately [or out of ignorance] choose only the “evidence” that suits their purpose and deliberately ignore evidence that contradicts what they choose to believe.

For example, if you read a LOT about the Shroud of Turin, you find that the carbon 14 dating is only of the soot from a fire that took place in the middle ages. So the sample of the cloth used for carbon 14 dating was improperly collected. And also, a lot of the samples for analysis were taken from along the edges of the cloth where there is a lot of finger grease and finger oil from all of the handling that has taken place over the centuries and decades.

The problem occurs when people only read one or two or three books and articles. If you read 20 or 50 books and articles, you get the whole story by piecing all of the parts together. And in some articles, the questions and uncertainties get addressed. But finding those illuminating articles takes time and patience.

Keep studying.

If you start with the Shroud of Turin, for example, you could build up a whole file with articles and a whole shelf with books. And you could expand to a study of Jesus’ wounds from his passion. And of the cloth possibly being the table cloth from the Last Supper [thread count and rings left from the dishes]. And a study of the True Cross. Read Joan Carroll Cruz’ book, “Relics”, for example.

An indepth study of one small aspect is a wonderful way to start developing an appreciation of the spiritual treasury of the Catholic Church.

Those who don’t seek the truth, don’t care for the evidence. All truth comes from and goes to God, who is the Truth itself.

The children of Israel saw the ten plagues, a sea being parted, manna from Heaven, led through the desert with a cloud by day, fire by night…and they still did not believe.
What does that tell you?

Even 'Doubting Thomas remained an Apostle of Jesus. We all stumble and probably doubt at times, but the Holy Spirit doesn’t give up on us. I agree with WnterWH about the Shroud of Turin. I read a lot about it over the years, and saw an exhibit of the Shroud when I was in Jerusalem last year (which included a life size photo of the Shroud), it was amazing!

**Read Sacred Scripture and pray to Jesus!

He will give you the Grace to open your heart to His Truth!!!

There is no avail to human logic, we are not God. We can only listen to God in our heart if we will allow Him in!**

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!
