I am saddened to find out that Prop. 85 - mandatory waiting period and parental notification for minors having an abortion - failed here in California. Seems the culture of death has a strong hold on this state when we can’t even approve kids telling their parents about killing a baby. It’s not even requiring CONSENT, just notification!!!

But, hey, don’t give 'em an aspirin or a tylenol unless you call first and get written consent from mom, dad, uncle, 3rd cousin, and the guy over on 17th street!

I’m thinking about leaving L.A. to move out of state. This might be the last straw!
 
I would never live there…and I’m seriously considering leaving Missouri before I start working full-time (I’m still in college right now). I refuse to let my tax dollars be spent on such evil as we have seen this election.

(Please continue to pray on this issue- wherever you are- both that this situation could be fixed- and that God continue to be merciful, in spite of our infidelity).

You’re not alone. Some of us already left. 🙂 But, even Missouri and South Dakota voted on the wrong side on the issue this time. If “Middle America” goes, it won’t be long before there’s nowhere to escape this kind of nonsense.

Time to book early passage to the moon…

I can’t tell you how outraged I was when I saw the results coming in on TV. Some friends from my Newman Club and I were at a resturaunt and some girl at another table gave a little cheer when she saw that 43 didn’t pass. I considered throwing our table at her. It took ad campaigns full of lies by the no on 43 people to do it.

I’m very sad here too. All we can do now is pray for those who have no voice. We can become their voice… unless we give up.

I agree, I honestly didnt care about anything on the ballot except 43. I really thought there was enough in Oregon who cared enough. Maybe it was those blatant lies on the tv in regards to “No on 43”, they never mentioned the judge clause which 43 CONTAINED. :mad:

I really blame the “Christians” in Oregon both Protestant and Catholic, if there was solid moral teaching about 43 then the professing “Christians” in Oregon should have been enough to pass it.

Just another example of having someone other than the parent(s) raise the child and make decisions for it. And the reasons given are specious at best.

Is there no one left to speak for babies?

Well, I voted “yes” on 85, but cannot afford to leave the state just yet. I am 62 years old, plan to retire in 8 years. Maybe then
 
It’s time to face the fact that the pro-life movement as we now it is now dead. After the defeat on Tuesday of Proposition 85 in California, Measure 43 in Oregon, Amendment 2 in Missouri, and especially Referred Law 6 in South Dakota, we can clearly see that the people are not pro-life. The American people support legal abortion.

If the pro-life cause is going to make any progress, we need a new strategy. I was an advocate of legislating morality for a long time (hey, it worked with slavery), but that method of attack appears to be infeasible at this point.

The “hearts and minds” approach, where we try to change people’s views on abortion, would seem to be the way to go at first glance. However, most people (I’d say 98% of the people) have no interest in hearing more debates and propaganda about abortion and will simply tune it out.

Personally, I think the pro-life movement is a lost cause for now.

I disagree, the pro life movement is not in any way weakening. The reason why things went so bad is that people were pissed off with the Republicans, the conservatives were mad and didnt bother showing up to vote while the democrats and moderates wanted the republicans out of congress and showed up and voted.
 
So the government says that a teen girl who still lives in the same home as her parents has the right not to tell them about the abortion. How are parents to raise kids now. We can’t discipline them. I didn’t say abuse them, becuase, some people look at a slap on the back side as abuse. Now the parent has no right to know if thier teenage girl has an abortion. What if the girl has problems due to the abortion and has to go to the hospital? Will the state be responsible or the parent?

This is just so wrong. The government is just telling the kids that it is okay to have sex and get pregnant cause you can get the abortion and it’s okay we’ll keep it from your parents. SO SAD.

Um, it wasn’t the government in a “Big Brother” sense. It was the people that decided this.

While I hate to admit it, I fear you may be right. I was beginning to feel mildly hopeful because of the 2 new justices, the partial-birth abortion ban, and Bush’s position on embryonic stem cells, but now that the PEOPLE have spoken, and not the judges or the politicians, I feel that the battle may be unwinnable. Our fellow countrymen have spoken and I think the message is clear.

In regards to “how are parents to raise kids now”…I might not be realistic when I say this but I believe parents who are really on top of their teens dont have to worry about those issues so much, for example they should forbid “dating” at such young ages and thereby greatly reduce the risk/temptation. On top of that things like MTV should be forbidden as well as similar liberal teen shows/magazines.

I agree with you. My kids know what not to watch, read and listen to. But what when they become teenagers. They will become tempted no matter what we teach them on morals and values. Why? Society. Society is the down fall of our youth. Politicians who support pro-choice or abortion are the reasons I worry about my kids. If the politicians make the law and people who support these politicians and vote on the law out-wiegh the people who oppose the law, we as parents have a lot to worry about. I have a friend who goes to my church who is a dem. I know it is not right to label all dems. as pro-abortion or pro-choice, but they all belong to the same party. That means they rub elbows with each other. You do for me I do for you. I don’t see how anyone can be a Catholic and be a Democrat. Sorry just my opinion.
