So, you may have read my story about the bookstore from last week (it’s a few posts down). Yesterday, I figured I needed to be better ‘armed’ and picked up a few plastic rosaries and pamphlets. I put them in my purse, not knowing why or when I’d need them, and I have a fairly small purse right now.

I went off to go to Mass in the city today where I went last week, and as I drove, I wondered what I should do this week; should I go to the bookstore again? Hmmmm. I prayed for God to show me the answer. I got there 30 minutes early so I could do my Rosary and Divine Mercy Novena.

I had barely parked near the Church, and I saw a man walk up to a woman, but then move on. He spoke, and I thought he was speaking to someone behind me. He asked again…“Can I have some money for a sandwich?” Now, in the past I have given food to people, but not in many years. (I don’t see many homeless in general in my neck of the woods). I also tend not to give money to people, although I will if I feel the ‘push’. Without hesitation, I said I could buy him a sandwich. I had just noticed a Jimmy John’s on the corner as I drove in; I didn’t notice it last week, or when I was next door at BBBS last winter. He said thanks. The XXXX (not Catholic) Church (he said) wouldn’t feed him because they caught him sleeping on their property.🤷 I won’t judge either one, I don’t know both sides of the story.

We walked over to Jimmy John’s (Sandwich shop…fancy deli sandwiches). We walked, and I believe his name is Jeremy. I put my Bible in the car so I didn’t have to carry it in the heat, and we walked over. He asked about that (Bible Study? Nope, Mass.) and after I bought his lunch, I asked if we could sit at the table while he ate. I said I wasn’t eating because I was going to Mass. He was intrigued, I could tell. I asked if he’d like to come, and he declined politely. I mentioned to him that it was nice and cool in the Church; he could just watch if he wanted. Anyway, he ate, and saved half his sandwich and chips for later (plus the cookie that I surprised him with). I invited him again, and he said he had to meet friends. Okay, no worries. 🙂 I said I wasn’t trying to preach at him, but , “If you knew where there was the best food in the world, and it was free, wouldn’t you tell EVERYONE about it?” (Best I could come up with on the spot)

He acted like he was starting to go, but then got real serious. That eye piercing look. This definitely wasn’t a chance encounter. He asked if people who never had the chance to know Christ would still be able to go to Heaven. Now, I just happened to read something about that the other day. He was happy with my probably rambling answer.

I then asked him if I could give him something. He said sure. I handed him a Rosary and a pamphlet. He was surprised. Then he surprised me. He asked if I could meet him on Friday. I asked if he would go to Church with me. He said, Yes!!! I told him he could go with me anytime, but I wasn’t going to be able to buy him lunch every time. However, I thought later that I will make him a sandwich or two and bring it. I had apologized that I hadn’t gotten the rosaries blessed yet; he asked if we could do that on Friday! 🙂 I need to remember to bring my Mass book. Plus, they do the Divine Mercy after Mass, and some other prayer at the beginning when they move the Body of Christ to the Altar.

Now, I don’t know if he’ll be there. I hope he is. Maybe I’m being taken advantage of. Maybe not. But I DO know that God gave me an almost immediate answer to my prayer. Praise God!!

Btw, I just started saying the Divine Mercy since last Wednesday (see OTHER thread I posted) and the Novena Monday. I didn’t notice, but this parish is consecrated (I think that’s the right word) to the Divine Mercy!

I’m trying not to brag, really I’m not; I just want to share the blessing He has given to me. Who knows what next week holds? 🙂 Who even knows what this Friday holds? God does, and that’s all that matters.

Open your eyes, and He shows us amazing things!

Christina
PS: I did speak with someone after Mass who goes there, and told her that if a man is waiting out front on Friday, he’s with me, and that we want to be sure to welcome him. 🙂 I think a lot of homeless congregate down there, and I don’t know their position on that (loitering). I also had the PERFECT amount of time to complete the Chaplet before Mass!!

It was good that you were able to sit and have a conversation with him and know his name. I bought a meal for someone but they didn’t feel like talking (and that’s okay, too.) It is thoughtful that you asked if you could give him something and were honest about buying him lunch every time (that is expensive even if it were just for you!) I will pray for him too.

Yeah, I wanted to make it clear I wasn’t made of money, but I would help him however I could. Maybe that’s feeding his soul. 🙂 My grandparents, especially my grandfather, taught me this; they always asked new people in town to come to church, but no pressure. He also picked up hitchhikers on occasion (which I used to do as well, but not anymore). My uncle is a missionary, often in Africa and South America (both are different faiths but quite holy and I fully expect that they will be in Heaven waiting for me, God willing).

I’m excited that God answered me so quickly and in such a positive way. I was barely out of my car! God is so good! I can do all things through Him who strengthens me!

Thanks for sharing this Christina! It would be great to know when he shows up on Friday. I’ll be praying for this.

I will update on Friday. Even if he doesn’t, he’s made a difference in MY life, and I like to think that I helped make a difference in his, even for a moment. If God gives me even more of a blessing on Friday, (by him showing up) I need to be ready! 🙂

I’m still amazed and happy that God just planted my answer right in front of me! The people in the sandwich shop thought I was nuts. I said, get whatever you want, and he wouldn’t decide, so I told the cashier, “Give him whatever YOUR favorite is.”

They were all looking at me funny. Who knows, maybe he brings someone in every day to buy his meal. 🤷 But he was truly a blessing to me today, and I told him that.

My lock screen on my smart phone says, **“Heavenly Father, I embrace your grace this day, so that I might not: Think of another, Speak to another or Touch another, without first looking for Your Face in the other. I ask all this through Jesus Christ God Incarnate.” It says it’s the “Face Prayer”.
**
I’ve been praying to see Jesus in others when I look at them, for He is in each of us. It very much seemed to me like Jesus was walking up to me today. I pray that we all can see His face in others.

I like to believe that most of y’all would have done the same thing.

I see now why it was an answer to your prayer. It would probably blow his mind to know that.

I’d like to think we’d do the same thing too. Thank you for sharing this.

Wow. It seems that God is working through you. I hope he does show up, but even if he doesn’t this encounter with you might plant something in his heart.

Alas, my new friend did not show up that day, and the sandwiches I had made with beverages included, were not given out. 😦 I enjoyed them, though!

I’m not giving up; that could be the lesson I learned from that, though! Things don’t always go as planned or hoped, and who knows what difference God made in his life that day.

Thank you for reminding me to update! 🙂 I’ll let you know when the next opportunity occurs!

JUST LIE I SAID *

WHEN God gives you the opportunity. TAKE it.

But be PRUDENT with this man and the money.🙂

God BLESS you and continue to guide you dear friend:thumbsup:*

It takes time, therefore, we have to be patient and loyal to God as He didn’t ask us to be successful.

Very inspiring story, great work.
