If the English language is the international language why does the pope always use Italian as the international language? In my opinion English IS the international language.
And why does the pope pray in Italian instead of Latin in certain prayers at a papal Mass?
I actually get upset when I hear the pope speaking Italian (unless he were at a Italian parish church or with Italian Bishops).
I write this in English since this is the Language we both understand. It is the international language.

The Holy Father has admitted he doesn’t speak English well. Better for him to express himself in Italian and reduce the chances that he’ll be misunderstood.

They speak Italian in Rome. What possible advantage would there be to have an English speaking enclave in the middle of Rome? You would need to know Italian anyway to live in Rome and interact with people who live there.

He usually speaks in Italian when he is speaking in public in Italy or in the the Vatican City State. In other places he often speaks in Spanish. When he was in Brazil for World Youth Day, back in 2013, he spoke in Portuguese. I think we may be confident that he knows what is expected of him.

So an X-mass message from the pope is only for Italians??? And btw, it would be so much cooler if he spoke in Latin.

I remember hearing pope John Paul II giving a message/talk in Swedish. He obviously didnt speak Swedish and only read from a text pre-written.
This is so cool. He had a good accent for a non-speaker of the language.

The Pope is Bishop of Rome.

Most popes before Pope John Paul were Italian. They probably spoke Italian, Latin and possibly Classical Greek.

Pope Francis has Twitter messages in multiple languages. When he preaches at St.Peters or Santa Marta it’s usually in Italian.

No, but if he’s speaking in Rome I would not think it odd that he would do so in Italian.

Again, the Holy Father’s English is not so good.

Cool it might be, but given your argument about English being the international language and thus preferable to Italian, this would make even less sense.
