Oh sweet little thing. He reminds me of the baby jackrabbit I found injured in the roadside gutter in the days following the September 11, 2001 tragedy when I was visiting the US to spend time in Phoenix with my son and his American wife. It was her eyes that gave away that she was still alive, she otherwise appeared to be dead. I gently picked her up and took her home. I gave aher a careful gentle warm bath, and she sighed a very human sigh. However she had a severe injury that was unlikely to heal, so I searched around for the right authority to call. She accepted sage flowers an avocado, untill the animal ambulance was to come for her in the morning.
They know when you are trying to help them. The trust of the injured creatures and fallen I’ve found is beyond precious and beautiful.

As she was bathed and clean, I wrapped her in a soft clean towel and took her to bed with me that night, because I couldn’t bear for her to die alone if she did so during the night. Although injured, and a wild creature, she inched upward until her nose touched mine, so I gently moved her to my side again. She inched back, so I left her there. Next morning the animal ambulance took her away. I phoned later that day for information but they denied knowledge of her. It had been clear she would need to be put to sleep, but she hadn’t had to die alone in the gutter, poor wee thing.
