Oh Grace, you know all my favorite! I love Makeum and Clancy! And everything else you posted, not the stuff most people think Irish music is! Thanks so much! ☘️
Slainte!

You do know that the Lord of the Dance is not Irish at all, right? It’s a Shaker hymn written by an Englishman (which is terrible to the Irish people, LOL) The term Lord of the Dance was hijacked by Michael Flatley 🤣
But Thanks for the thread and the kind thought toward the Irish. The guys from Joe’s work are taking him for a beer tonight. (They think all Irish people are falling down drunks, but he’s being gracious. LOL
A very blessed t. Patrick’s day to all the Irish on CAF!!!

This is Joe’s go-to when he gets homesick! ☘️

The English stole tons from the Irish, so it’s only fair that we appropriate/improve their songs and claim them as our own, lol. Aesthetic’s the thing that matters most, at any rate.

Thank you. When I hear it played in church I think “Simple Gifts” because I always loved that song and a previous organist at one of my parishes would play “Simple Gifts” as a Thanksgiving communion reflection. Then I get startled when they start singing the “Lord of the Dance” lyrics.

It’s St Patrick’s Day, you know what that means …

😘💋 kisses to all the Irish! ☘️

Not sure how “traditional” this is, but my Irish mother had a Dennis Day record when I was a kid that had this on it, and it was my favorite song on the album.

We grew up singing this Clancy Lowered the Boom. There’s a whole tradition of Irish-American offshoots. “Who put the Overalls in Mrs. Murphy’s Chowder?” is another one. Bing Crosby.

Irish composer writes music for American dancer, now with body percussion added by Spanish teens. 😄 It’s a small world nowadays.

Yeah, the priests I have worked for asked me not to play it. They felt it was disrespectful of the Crucifixion, but hey people love it. It’s in every hymnal. But it ain’t Irish, LOL.

There’s tons of lovely genuine Irish music around. When my daughters took Irish dance from a world class dancer, there were all kinds of music that were set in an Irish meter, and with Irish instruments. Fun to listen to.
Lots of great music posted here.
