I just read a news story at cnn.com this morning that I find very disturbing. The following is an excerpt:

*"On camfess.com, a woman admitted, “I don’t think my boyfriend is cute.” If God is checking his e-mail, He might see the “ask for forgiveness” form you completed on forgivenet.com.

Absolution is also available on YouTube, where videos of members of XXX Church, a team of pastors based in Michigan, discuss their unholy addiction to porn."*

It appalls me to think that possibly Catholics are actually going to this site to confess their sins and not receiving full absolution and the graces that come along with the absolution. What is wrong with people???

Shirley… This is not a Catholic site… If the mass population wants to ask for forgiveness on a website… well maybe they will just get one step closer to accepting confession in the Catholic Church… I wouldn’t worry about it… it is no better or worse than other sites that have crackpot ideas on them.

Unfortunately, those Catholics who may not be properly catechized may mistakenly believe that this practice is allowed by the Church. Worse yet, they might think that because it’s on CNN, there may be validity to it.

Hey…did you see this CNN article posted this morning? I wasn’t aware of this… It’s trend could be detrimental to millions of souls because they think they will ease their conscience through online “confession” but they keep the sin without absolution from a Priest. Anyway, just thought I would pass this along…

I’m guess there’s something that people just like about anonymously confessing something for the whole world to see. It’s so edgy, so risqué, so daring. They can just what it is they do, and they needn’t express remorse, sorrow, contrition, etc., and they needn’t feel impelled to change their lives.

Instead of… you know… confessing it in humility and repentance to God through His ordained priesthood to receive forgiveness and absolution.
