I recently started helping out at the local county jail, and visiting the inmates for a bible study class. What I am looking for is a good Catholic bible that is constructed in a way that reads like a normal bible, but also has reflection questions about the various passages that you just read. I would like to use these questions with the inmates after we read a part and get their thoughts on the questions.

Someone pointed out the “Serendipity Bible for personal and small group study”, but I only seem to see this in hard cover (I’d prefer paper back, but I could work with a hard cover if I had to), but I have not been able to find out what translation (NAB, RSV, etc) this is.

Are there any other bibles like this? Even a book (or website) that just has questions on the various books and passages of the bible would be great. The jail has their own bibles, so I would only need one of these for myself.

Thanks for your help,

John

I just got a Catholic Study Bible from Barnes and Nobels. It like the only one they carry.

It a big book so I don’t travel with it but it is GREAT for study time!

There is one I carry with me at ALL times it is honestly my favorite Holy Bible.

Thanks for the reply, but I know there are a number of study bibles out there, but that is not really what I am looking for (at least not the normal format of the Study Bibles that I have seen). What I am looking for is something similar to the Serendipity Bible that will ask you questions for group discussions. I eventually did just go with the Serendipity Bible. I couldn’t find it in the NAB version, but I think it will do okay.

I would think there would be other bibles or books like this that other Bible Study groups use.

I don’t have the book with me, but some of the questions that it might ask are like this:

For Matt 6:16-18 - What does fasting mean to you? How does it bring you closer to Jesus?
