WOW,

I just got out from James Whites www and I got done reading this.
You should read this! It is so deceptive that when you get to the end you ask, How do these guys get away with such deception?

Here it is
aomin.org/SS.html

The whole scene is so staged that he makes himself win an argument against himself and come out looking like the victor. Dont forget the sales pitch at the end!

I would love to hear your take!

it is a poorly disguised attempt to state his own case against someone who is close to him in real life. He says that the woman was “excommunicated”. He also says that some did not stay away and were converted to Rome. He has a sling at Scott Hahn, EWTN as well as Journeys Home. He says that the story is not real…

I doubt that he is telling the truth and he has not proved Sola Scriptura with such a shoddy effort.

Yeeeahhhhh…Even as a literary work, it stunk.

Mark: What are you, Apolonio, an anti-Nazi?

Apolonio: Yup!

Mark: Have you written any books?

Apolonio: No.

Mark: Debates?

Apolonio: No.

Mark: Written tracts, or maybe articles?

Apolonio: No.

Get the logic of Mr. White? Yeaaahh…uh huh. No wonder why I don’t take him seriously anymore.

Anyway, I invite anyone to read Peter Kreeft’s “Socrates Meets” or any kind of Socratic type book. You’ll find much more humor and a lot more truth.

Total rhetorical non-sense. He doesn’t even answer the issue of the historicity of sola scriptura. Smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors.

Peace

Definitely smoke and mirrors and an extremely poor effort in writing. As far as debating marks go I would give him a smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_3_12.gif

“I see you have not read Goode or Whitaker or Salmon or Webster and King” I said, smiling. “Yes, I surely am. But I think it better if we begin with the biblical issue first. You said the doctrine is unbiblical, correct?”
By George, I don’t recall writing anything in defense of sola scriptura. If I did, I recant.

Peace in Christ…Salmon

Jimmy,

lol…Phil is a very funny guy.

Actually, if James wants to say that Peter may have possibly not go to Rome, then he must believe that Mark was not the author of the Gospel of Mark. The early church spoke of Peter and Paul dying in Rome. The early church also spoke of Mark (the main source is that which is preserved by Eusebius), Matthew, Luke, and John writing the Gospels. Now, I can list as many objections that they wrote the Gospels as I can list objections to Peter going and dying to Rome. In fact, I can list more objections against the authorship of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John.

Now, we know that Peter died around the 60s. Clement of Rome spoke of Peter dying in Rome. This was around the 90s. That’s a thirty year span. A development of a legend that Peter went and died in Rome is very unlikely (in fact, the early christians wrote it as if it’s simply a historical event, not bringing up any angels or glorifying Peter in a mythical way) unless he actually went to Rome. Ask any ancient historian. Ask any first-century historian if this is likely. It’s not. Mr. White is wrong.

I loved that reference from Phil, especially when Loraine Boettner and James White were dismissed as incompetent witnesses. The judge got it right.

That was funny, but my favorite part is when James White introduces himself. I was rollin on the floor.:rotfl:

WHITE: James Robert White. I work for myself. I run the very small organization Alpha and Omega Ministries. I am the Director of Ministries there. In fact, I’m the only employee. I am also the Scholar in Residence at Grand Canyon University and teach Church history and Greek. I debate Roman apologists on the side and have defeated Gerry Matatics every time I have debated him. I have also beaten Robert Fastiggi, Patrick Madrid (the Mad Patter), Robert Sungenis and Scott Butthead,
I mean, Butler. I am “the best critic of Roman Catholicism in the United States today.” I have written books attacking Romanism and am working on a large one that will blow away the volumes put out by Moody, William Webster, and Norm Geisler.

:rotfl:

WHITE: I don’t care. The Pope is not the Vicar of Christ on earth and Peter NEVER went to Rome. He was NEVER there! I’m sorry but I have been doing a bunch of research and Loraine Boettner is quite correct. Rob Zins thinks so too. Yeah, Zins is cool.

I found it very funny.

Hey…
If St. Peter never went to Rome, then how come his bones were found under the altar of the Basilica during WWII? He was buried in the Vatican just as tradition says… I saw a great tape by A&E on the Vatican and even THEY said so.

I wouldn’t trust James White if he told me it was raining outside. I’d still have to go out and get wet.

Question? Is it possible that so many of these guys are so avidly A/C because if we ARE right (And I believe we are!) they are out of a job? Is all this A/C rhetoric about MONEY?

shakes his head I don’t wanna believe that about 'em…but why else lie about all this?
Pax vobiscum,

I don’t really know much about his personality, but I purchased his book called ‘Scripture Alone’ and although it was well written and logically ordered, I found his arguments unconvincing.

I thought it would be more scholarly than it was, given people keep calling him the best anti-Catholic apologist around. I guess it was intended for a mainstream audience though.

Well he got my money for the book at least so he has some skill  LOL

Ask for a refund? 👍

His Scripture Alone book is a short, popular treatment, written for the general public. Not much there. Try Webster/King for more meat, and Keith Mathison’s The Shape of Sola Scriptura who concedes the authority of the visible Church for orthodox interpretation is essential.

Time to watch this again, if you can figure out the “magic word”

Hear James White Tell the Truth About Sola Scriptura

I do not enjoy when a/cs refer to the Roman church…that ticks me off.

Since this thread has nothing to do with Apologetics, but has turned into more of an anti-James White rant. It is being closed.

Rather than complain about Mr. White, we should pray for his conversion. Please avoid this sort of behavior on threads in the future.
