Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Our Parish is having a special Mass today, followed by the blessing of a Headstone in the Church cemetary adjacent to the Church; Headstone is inscribed with the words: “In memory of all babies killed by abortion”.

January 22 is the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in this Country, known as Roe vs. Wade. How appropriate that the headstone can be blessed on this day!

Hopefully many parishes will be offering special opportunities today on this Day of Prayer for the Unborn and for their mothers and fathers. May we one day see an end to willful, unwarranted killing of the unborn and partially born babies in the USA and worldwide.

Thanks so much! May the Lord hear all our prayers, through Mary our Mother and Model of the Church and St. Joseph who protected Mary and Baby Jesus from the cruel slaughter of the Innocents by Herod.

Psalm 8:2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.Ecclesiastes 11:5 Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother’s womb, so you do not know the work of God, who makes everything.

Psalms 139: 7 Where can I go from your spirit?Or where can I flee from your presence?8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there;if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.9 If I take the wings of the morning
and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,10 even there your hand shall lead me,and your right hand shall hold me fast.11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,and the light around me become night,”12 even the darkness is not dark to you;the night is as bright as the day,for darkness is as light to you.13 For it was you who formed my inward parts;you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works;that I know very well.15 My frame was not hidden from you,when I was being made in secret,intricately woven in the depths of the earth.16 Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.In your book were written all the days that were formed for me,when none of them as yet existed.17 How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!How vast is the sum of them!18 I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
I come to the end—I am still with you.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, 20 who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. 21 And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God fora good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him.

Ruth 2:20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he by the Lord, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!” Naomi also said to her, “The man is a relative of ours, one of our nearest kin.”
2 Maccabees 12: 44 For if he were not expecting that those who had fallen would rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead. 45 But if he was looking to the splendid reward that is laid up for those who fall asleep in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Therefore he made atonement for the dead, so that they might be delivered from their sin.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.

Dear Tis_Bearself and Francis

Thanks for your replies.

Tis_Bearself --I’m glad your parish is having a special Holy Hour tonight to pray for life. We have Perpetual Adoration and many of our Adorers will be praying for life as well. Hopefully every parish will do something special today on this Day of Prayer for the unborn.

Francis, Thanks for the Beautiful quotes from Scripture. There were so many options for Mass readings at the usccb site this morning, it was difficult to prepare for today’s Mass! I don’t know which set of Readings our Pastor will choose – but all are God’s precious messages to us; see options
