I’m currently in the process of learning Japanese. Classes are over right now, so I’m doing it free hand. In absence of a sensei, I figured that it might help if I could read some Japanese translations of my favorite American novels. I got ahold of some of my favorites and they’re helping me out, but it later occurred to me that the Bible would probably be a valuable addition to my translated library.
Finding a Japanese translated Bible on Amazon was easy enough, however I’m getting mixed signals from the reviews. The “Japanese Bible-FL-Colloquial” was the first to pop up, but I heard that it wording was less comprehensive than the Japanese “Living Bible.”
I’d just get the Living Bible, I’m having difficulty figuring out if the book is just hard to read for the Japanese or for Western culture as well as the Japanese. If it’s the former, I might as well just get the Colloquial edition, but like I said, I’m not sure.
If there’s anyone who’s familiar with either of these editions and their cultural relevance, could you suggest to me which one to get?
Just for clarification, I read the Douay-Rheims English version. Whatever translation is most alikened to the DR would be my preferred.
