Jean-Paul Sartre said Hell was being locked forever in a room with your friends.

What do you think of that statement and what exactly does it mean?

He might be same Fr. philo who sed “Hell is other people”
He sure wasn’t seeing Christ in those he was aquainted with

Sartre was very dark in his philosophy. If you want to become depressed, read “Being and Nothingness” and pretend it’s all true for one month.

Existentialism and the French always seemed like a match made in (?) Heaven to me.

Sadly, we all have a part of us that we need to hide from others. And no, I do not mean any part of the body; bodies are innocent.

In an eternity locked up with the same people, these shameful aspects of our psyche would come to light, and in that sense, Sartre was right.

Hell is being locked in a room full stop. Add some people to make it worse imo. And eternal anything is beyond comprehension.
I’d prefer solitary confinement, as long as it wasn’t pitch dark all the time.

It means that when you know that someone is looking at you, you are no longer free. The other looks at you as if you were something fixed. So, for her you have a nature. You are this or that, and you will never change. On your side, you want to make her think of you in a certain manner; you want to convince her that you are this or that, or you want to fulfill her expectations. You become a kind of thing; but you know that you are more than a thing, and so you suffer, because you know that that situation is desperately absurd.

However, I think love is possible. The other can learn how to love, and she can look at you with love. And when you, after certain time, come to know how she loves you, you will become free, as she believes that you have the ability to grow, and she is always open to your creativity because she knows that there are infinite ways to reflect God’s perfection. And you will know that you will always be a person to her.
