I am in need of some assistance on a couple of authors. A friend of ours is in our prayer group and she is reading books by: Jean-Pierre De Caussade and Francois Fenelon. Some of the quotes she has given from the books sound like they could be New Age but I’m not sure because they may have been taken out of context.

Could you let me know if these two authors are acceptable by the Catholic Church?

Caussade is too old to be new age 🙂 He was born in 1675 and is a good Catholic author. Self-Abandonment To Divine Providence carries the usual imprimatur, etc. I don’t know much about Fenelon.

I agree with Pug regarding Fr. de Caussade and also know nothing about Fenelon. If it sounds a bit New Age-ish at times (and Abandonment to Divine Providence never struck me that way), it’s probably because there can be pieces of the truth in the New Age movement. I think that’s why people sometimes buy into it. It can be very seductive. It’s not until later when the ease of the New Age philosophy starts to overtake the hard truths of the faith that the soul forsakes “religion” for “spirituality.” All of which points to our need for good catechesis and not getting mentally and spiritually lazy as we get older! :getholy:
