@The_Old_Maid, did you write that review by any chance or is that just an amazing co-incidence?

I wrote the book review. The second link is from CBS. I just thought the book was really good and it deserved more publicity. Also, I expect the author wrote her book to alert other people about the symptoms so they can catch and fix their health issues a lot sooner.

I am glad you and she wrote what you did.

It is amazing how people disregard symptoms and brush them off as nothing.

Jim is probably my favorite comedian.

Nice to see a positive thread about the Gaffigans. There were mean words about them in some areas of Catholic media back in the summer of '17 (yes, Lifesite, I am looking at you)

May God bless their family and keep the laughs coming!!

Mean words?

You mean this…

Readers can judge for themselves whether LifeSite was being mean, I suppose.

The only reason I am posting this is that I don’t appreciate “drive-by” criticism where the charges aren’t specified, just alluded to in order to detract.

The outrage from certain religiocal (where politics and religion are blended) social media was so wide and loud that I assume this is common knowledge to the people who frequent social media.

Actually, no, I didn’t know. I’m not much of a celebrity watcher; I only follow the work. Based on the timing, Jeannie would have been recuperating. The event to which was alluded isn’t mentioned in her book or in his albums.

The last time I really followed the personal lives or memoirs of famous people, it was for the Star Trek cast. Wow did I learn my lesson. Nowadays, if a celebrity doesn’t end up on the six o’clock news, I probably haven’t heard it.

Still recommending the book, though.

He has always rubbed me the wrong way. I feel the same way about other celebrities that are Catholic. If you dig deeper, it seems like they are using their Catholic faith as a way gain an audience. Everything looks nice and Catholic on the outside but then you have them supporting gay marriage, or pro choice, or vulger movies. And IMO it can actually do a lot of harm to Catholicism. It presents Catholicism as softening and becoming more in line with society. If society sees these popular Catholics (I won’t name names out of charity) and think they are the image of Catholicism, it warps the views of Catholics and non Catholics of what the Church is.

Definitely my favorite comedian. I had heard of him, but never really watched his stuff until this past summer.

Here are a few other reviews.
Review 1.
Review 2.
Review 3 and related article.

Most of them stress the humor in the book. I’ll admit, I wouldn’t consider the book humorous, as such. I mean, I read them, just smiled more at them as gallows humor. It’s not a belly-laugh book. That’s okay, since she recovered.

A couple months ago I read an article about my favorite rock-n-roll band and learned things I had never known. Kinda wish I hadn’t. It sort of messed it up for me.
