Considering all the drug references the song has, I can’t say that the situation doesn’t bother me.

I suppose these cruises attract a lot of hedonists who do drugs so maybe the song resonates with them. I really don’t know though because I’ve never been on a cruise and will never be on one.

Possibly. Regardless my impression of cruises is that their sole purpose is self indulgent hedonism. If that’s what people are into fine. I don’t need to be artificially entertained while being stuck on a ship.

The most ridiculous example of something like this is when a jeans company played the first line of Vietnam protest song Fortune Son, “Some folks are born / made to wave the flag / ooh that red, white, and blue” and tried to play it off as some All-American anthem.

One thing I will say about the cruise commercial, that actress in it is quite pleasing to the eye. 😉

being stuck on a ship
Unlike the ships of slave traders, people are free to jump off of their cruise ship in the event of an emergency, such as when a Tom Jones impersonator takes the stage.

Just saw the commercial, looked it up on Google.

Quite agreed. Very attractive.

The drug reference is so oblique that it would fly right over most people’s heads.

That’s an excellent song. Why would one object to a secular commercial that uses an iconic song with no bad words or sexual innuendo?

They butchered the song in a most undignified way.

I’m with you but then again I find most if not all commercials annoying.

Don’t think I want to be on a cruise ship that is inhabited by insects and mice.

Amen to that. The mere idea of a commercial cruise creeps me out!! Trapped on a floating mall, crammed in with thousands of people, nope not me!!

I enjoyed the one cruise I took, which left from Seattle and visited southeastern Alaska. It’s a fun way to travel but you don’t really get to know deeply the places you visit as you might if you were traveling by land.

As for the commercial, haven’t seen it but I’ve always loved that whole album and the song is an evergreen so it’s perhaps not a bad thing if the commercial exposes it to a younger generation.

Yes, and if it includes a hookah-smoking caterpillar, the White Knight, a Red Queen , the Dormouse along with Alice…all of a sudden I’m interested! That would be an interesting show.

I’d be less worried about the hedonism and more about the viruses.
