Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

simply ask who is to come at the second coming of Jesus?

This morning I met with them again. I asked them where the bible originate (ie. how and when were the books compiled) they didn’t have an answer, so we agreed to research it. I know where the canon of Scripture came from of course, but I think I will get further with some documentation. Also I have been on the WT site getting their take on things. I think it is best to be prepared, and we are having a good time discussing the bible. They are elated to have someone who is interested. I don’t want to come on too strong, I want to make them think, not scare them away.
 
As someone mentioned earlier on their “weird” translation. I belevie that they (the JW church) came out with a bible that has the greek (and accurate translation under it) right by what they have as the translation. I would figure that if you could find this in a bookstore somewhere and show them some of the mistranslations right there in something the JW church says is THE translation (takes away the its corrupt or any excuse they could use to not recogize your right scince their church says so) and working from a normal bible you can proboly have more luck making head way. I hope this helps.

There is one thing at the moment. She brought up baptism the other day. How do you suggest I address this. Also, do you have any suggestions for addressing the divinity of Christ? Or the differences in translation of their bible?

Re: the piece about the divinity of Jesus. I read a neat story once about a bookseller in CA who has a ministry of evangelizing to JWs. One way was to use their Bible in this way. JWs do not believe that Jesus is divine. OK, they can show you in their Bible where it indicates that only God can do a miracle. Then go to the NT to the story of the women with a hemorrhage. JESUS performs the miracle. He says that someone touched Him, and He felt power go out of Him. If Jesus performed the miracle, and only God can do miracles, WEELLLL!

Here is the most powerful prayer I have discovered yet.
embedded in the Altars and The Liturgy since Pentecost and possibly before that.

The PREMEDITATED OFFERING of my Body to God according to Romans 12: 1…
" And now, brothers (and sisters), I beg you by the mercy of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice
holy and acceptable to God, your spiritual worship. "

This is done at The Altar as our Priest invites us to “LIFT UP OUR HEARTS !”
and we respond ; “WE LIFT THEM UP TO THE LORD !”

you may want to think about what you are about to do the day before you do it.
at least think about it before you get dressed to leave for Mass !

To whoever you give your heart, your body follows. doesn’t it ?

If you have not already discovered this act of faith,
I pray thet God will draw you to His Altar beginning right now…
and reveal an OPEN DOOR to you which no man can shut.

  2. Some good introductory books are Jim Burnham and Fr. Frank Chacon’s:
    Beginning Apologetics 2 & Beginning Apologetics 2.5
  3. For a more indepth book there Jason Evert’s:
    Answering Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I seem to recall seeing a list of verses that have translation problems in their bible. Has anyone else run accross this, and do you have a link?
