Jer 10 Christmas Trees?

Jer 10

1 Hear what the LORD says to you, O house of Israel. 2 This is what the LORD says:
"Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the sky,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a **craftsman shapes it with his chisel.

4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.

5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good."

Many protestants misunderstand this text as referring to christmas trees, ( here is a very funny article for an example av1611.com/kjbp/ridiculous-kjv-bible-corrections/Christmas-Trees.html which was written by a king james only nutcase. ) and, I mean nutcase in the nicest possible way.

When in fact it is speaking about taking wood out of the forrest, shapping it into an idol, overlaying it with metal and worshipping it.

I suggest you read this text in many different translations.

This is another text misinterpretation that makes me seriously question the protestant method of interpretation.

Yeah, it’s the old “guilt by association” interpretation.

It puts me in mind of a Protestant poster we had here who told us that we must be worshipping Mary because we bow down before her likeness, because (here comes the guilt by association) whatever looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck must be a duck. This in spite of the fact that several of us had carefully and with many Scripture and CCC references had shown her she was wrong. Who can argue with that kind of logic?

Wow. That’s even sillier than the prophesied motor cars in Nahum. No one ever shaped our christmas trees with a chisel.

It’s almost sillier than those people who said that prophetically Jerusalem represents the USA because those are the middle three letters of Jerusalem.
