Jerry Falwell now says, "Faith in Christ" is unnecessary for jews.

Sirach14:
One wonders why the change of heart on this subject. On what authority did the Rev. Falwell come to this conclusion?

catholicintl.com/noncatholicissues/jf.htm
I think it comes from a better understanding of the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit are all perfectly united. One can’t love the Father without loving the Son and Spirit even if their understanding of the Trinity is incomplete. Falwell is recognizing that since he is not God, he is unable to judge the depth and magnitude of another’s love of God and he is properly deferring this judgement rightly to the exclusive purview of God.

I think a lot of these guys… Falwell, Hagee… it has little to do with sotierology for the Jews and more to do with eschatological issues of Zion in preparation for the Second Coming. Seriously, if they weren’t worried about the Rapture, they’d be trying to convert everyone.

Not to hijack the thread…

I’m fascinated by the disparity of behavior between the “live a good life because you never know when you may die” group of Christians (Catholics and many mainline Protestants) and the “be prepared/born again because we are living in the END TIMES {or LAST DAYS} and the Rapture may come TOMORROW” Chrisitians (Falwell, Hagee, and co.).

We approach our lives so differently, yet the cause we are concerned with is so similar: An event, which will completely change our existance, is going to happen and we don’t know when.

Yet the first group goes about trying to live a good life, be decent to others, get along in the world, and make the world a better place.

The second group runs about being concerned about everyone being born again, and doesn’t concern itself, on the whole, with the values of the first group.

Fascinating.

For people who believe in dispensationalism (most American fundamentalists), this is nothing new. Dispensationalism teaches that the Mosaic covenant is still in FULL EFFECT, and therefore, that Jews should remain Jews (at least until the 2nd coming). Thus, fundamentalists strongly support Judaism, and Israel. To try to convert Jews to Christianity (before the 2nd coming), would be to PREVENT the 2nd coming – because the 2nd coming in dispensationalism is absolutely dependent upon the existence of Judaism, Jews, and Israel.

It’s actually very dark, in my eyes.

Falwell has also said that the Antichrist is already born and is a Jew.

He’s promoting a type of end-times strategy which involves re establishing Temple worship for the Jews…all the way to precipitating Armageddon. There is also a guy named Vandy Jones, yes like Indy Jones (he has a website) who claims to know where the Ark is and the other paraphernalia such as the rod and breastplate of Aaron, and keeps digging for them near the Dead Sea. He’s found some things and explains them at his website. He also thinks that to revive the practice of anointing a Jewish king, the Jews have to go to Gilghal, where Saul etc were annointed, and he claims to know where that is, also.

I don’t think they are looking for these things out of curiosity, but that it is an effort to revive the Jewish kingdom.

Even old mild mannered Zola Levit shows Temple vestments on his show from time to time, or used to.

…And the Jihadists are looking for the Twelfth Imam.

Who died and made Falwell God?

A certain Jewish Pope (altho they didn’t use the word “pope” or “papa” for his position in his day) had this to say on the subject:
Acts 4:12–Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. (NKJV)

I’ve kinda been waiting for some fair-minded Catholic to jump in here and make a correction; but since none seems to be forthcoming, I’ll do it myself.

The link in the OP goes to an article that states Falwell has denied the charges. Since the charges are baseless, and since Falwell has denied the belief in question, that should end it.

Falwell has never taught “dual covenant” ideas. See his own words here.

It’s unnecessary if they don’t desire to be saved. You must believe upon the name of the son of God, Jesus. Everyone will bend knee at his name either now voluntarily or by force after bodily death no mattter what race or opinion!!! Falwell IS an anti-Christ if he is teaching that lunacy!!! 👍

Go for it dude.

No matter what, Jerry Falwell is still not someone I care to spend time listening to.

Interesting division isn’t it? I see it a bit differently though…I don’t think it is Be Prepared as much as it is “Get saved quick…that’s all you need” philosophy. I remember flipping channels one morning and hearing Hagee talk about a cruise he was hosting…I will never forget the sound of his voice saying "Oh Lord, the foooooooood! Immediately it reminded me of the 7 deadly sins. I guess I am too old school but I think moderation in all things is a good thing…the END TIMES folks reminds me of the Eat, Drink and be merry for tomorrow you may die followers.

Oh, superficially they do; only to the point of doing the lip service… You know the ones. The tell us that the end is coming, they are sure very soon, even though the bible even tells us that it will come like a thief in the night. They tell us to come learn about it at their church. Why would I want to know about the end if I don’t know about the beginning? Why are they so concerned about what will be instead of what they can become in God? I so don’t get it…I guess I would make a very bad follower, because I would want to know the whole story not just the ending. Perhaps it is just me though…
