Jerusalem - the harlot of Babylon?

Greetings to my fellow Christians,

I recently ran across an interpretation of the Book of Revelation that suggested that the wh*re of Babylon could be interpreted as the ‘Old’ Jerusalem. The argument relied heavily on Ezekiel 16. It was very compelling and made some sense. Considering the abominations that had been taking place in Jerusalem for centuries, the murders of Prophets and Christians in Jerusalem, and the place of the “killing of our Lord”, it seemed to make a good fit. Throw in that St John is shown the “new” Jerusalem coming dorn from the clouds. Was Babylon the “Roman Empire” and the harlot - Jerusalem?

I know the standard interpretation is that the harlot is Rome.

Has anyone else come across the Jerusalem interpretation? What about the Church Fathers - did they ever suggest this?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for your opinions.

In the spirit of Christ,

Corrgc
