Jesus and Christ, one in the same?

I have been a minister now for over 18 years but before that I was a devout Catholic. I won’t get into the reason(s) why I left the Catholic church now (it’s a very long story) but the point is that after a very hellacious and bumpy road I found my calling. I was counseling these teenagers last week and one young man asked me a question and I “fumbled the ball” (so to speak) because everything I could think of just didn’t sound right. So, I told him I would have to do some research and that I would get back to him this week with an answer. He asked me: Are Jesus and Christ the same person? Now, I was taught that it was Jesus Christ when I was a practicing Catholic;however, after doing research (after he asked me that question) I have come across numerous articles that states Jesus and Christ are separate entities. Can you clarify this for me please?

What articles are these?

Are you looking for the Catholic point of view? Has it changed since you were a Catholic?
Serious questions.

I have never come across such an article. Could link one, or give an example? Jesus - Christ - Emmanuel, all are the same.

Jesus is the Messiah. Christos (Christ) is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word Messiah. I don’t see how this constitutes a separation.

From what I saw online, it seems that some people are trying to separate the life of Jesus from His spirit, specifically after His resurrection?? Calling his in dwelling spirit Christ, and calling him Jesus during his ministry.

I don’t see the point in doing that. It would seem to invalidate some important aspect of His human and divine nature, as if trying to separate them.

From how I understand it, Jesus was born both divine and human. That is why Mary was the Immaculate Conception because she was the Ark that carried the Messiah.
Jesus did not all of a sudden become divine at 30.

“Christ” means “anointed”. It’s a title, or description. Jesus the Christ. Jesus the Anointed One. They are the same person. No one else in Christendom is “the anointed one” except Jesus.

Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, Catholic perspective is it’s all the same.

@Rev_53

Please don’t take this the wrong way but, you have been a “minister for over 18 years” and are a former devout Catholic and you didn’t know Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One? I mean you didn’t know how to answer that question??

Thank you!!! He joined Jan 1st and hasn’t posted since asking this one question. Your response really hit the nail on the head. I was thinking the same thing as you when I read his post.

First of all, even though none of you know me, on the outside chance that I am telling the truth about who I am and how long I’ve been a minister, etc…, do you honestly believe that I, personally wouldn’t know that Jesus and Christ are one? I was looking for a website that I hoped had a few decent people that I could get more opinions from because I needed others to verify that Christ and Jesus are the same for a conversation I was having with a “doubter” on another website. I have been back but only to take a screenshot of all your answers to show him (I hope you don’t mind). I was planning on stopping back in toward the end of the week to thank you all for the help but I’ll do it now…Thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut, I’m not sure if I changed his mind or not but at least I convinced him that Jesus and Christ are the same.
