I came across the following verse:

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God " Romans 8:14

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs–heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together" (Romans 8:16-17

Many people are called the sons of God( it is not unique to jesus), especially those who are said to 'inherit the kingdom of God. From this i gather that being a child of God refers to a person being good not an actual child of God.

We are not literally the children of God, however. The indications from scripture (I’m talking the original language) depicts Jesus as THE Son of God. He isn’t called A son of God.

When we are baptized, we say that we are “adopted” by God, by the nature of our rebirth in the Spirit at baptism. Only Jesus is said to be THE Son of God.

In the Old Testament, the people of Israel were referred to as the Children of God, because they were His chosen people.

All of humanity are children of God by our human nature because God created us in his image and likeness. Our journey in life should begin first in what unites all as one “our humanity”. Respecting each one’s humanity and the dignity of life for which God created us places us on a path to understand our differences in light of our humanity that unites us to God as children of God, who strive to do good.

We become son’s of God in the Son, by the Holy Spirit. Do you have the Holy Spirit? The one who is led by the Spirit of God, must believe and know that God is Spirit and God is Love. These son’s of God have been adopted as son’s of God through the Holy Spirit who is God.

The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit. A son of God must have the Spirit of God in order to be a child of God by spirit of adoption who cries out “Abba Father”.

Do you call God your Father? We dare too, because God has given His Spirit to us with confirmation.

Romans applies a condition after the fact of becoming son’s of God. “We suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together”. To suffer with Him is to have Him, Jesus Christ. The son’s of God who call God “Abba Father” have been baptized in the Son of God, so that God gives us His Spirit to be called (eternal) children of God as adopted son’s of God through the Holy Spirit, and if we are children of God then we are also heirs and joint heirs of God with Jesus Christ.

Fallen humanity are not joint heirs of God in the Son of God, unless a person recieves the gift of the Holy Spirit by baptism who makes us adopted son’s of God as children of God who can now confidently call God “Abba Father”.

Peace be with you

Considering humans can’t transmit a soul into a person, yes we are all Children of God. He has a role in creating each person- breathing life into them with a soul.

The mystery of the Trinity is labeled as such because it is something we cannot grasp with ease considering it is divine, and we are of nature.

The mystery is difficult for many Christians.

With reason and world history we can develop a pretty good understanding of Truth in where the matter lies.

History as witnessed, told, and re-told by many people over a long period of time. Many of whom died for what they had witnessed / said.

Heck, even Caesar didn’t want anything to do with Him after he made those blaspheming replies.

If Caesar didn’t think there was a little truth, isn’t it likely he would have treated Jesus like all the other blasphemers?

There is only one eternally begotten Son of God. Everyone else, being the creation of God, are children of God as well, but not eternally begotten, and not one in essence as the Father in Heaven.

Once again picking just a few verses, like the OP did isn’t going to reveal all that is being said in the Godly inspired words of St. Paul in Romans 8.

Let’s look at verse 1 onwards:

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you, free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

Thus Jesus is the only Begotten Son, but we through the Spirit of Christ in us become adopted Children of God. Main thing is Spiritually we are children of God.

You can even look at Ephesians one : Ephesians 1 predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,

Now back Romans 8 verse 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if ** indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

It becomes clearer. 🙂

Actually. And potentially both.

Gen. 1:26-27 “And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth. And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them”
  1. Jesus as “Son of God” refers to His Human nature. Because with His ALSO always present Devine Nature; He is God.
  2. The term “son’s of God” means “family.” Being “like God.” Because all are Created “like God” who is Spirit and Truth: Jn. John 4:23-24 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true adorers shall adore the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeketh such to adore him. God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth”
  3. The term “son’s of God” refers potentially to our “spiritual natures” [Our Souls to which are attached our minds, intellect and freewill’s.] It is applicable only to those who Know God; Love god; Serve God and Obey God and thereby merit heaven with God.
  4. Because God IS Spirit [not matter; except for Jesus] and when we die our physical self dies and returns to dust; it must be our “spiritual-self,” our SOULS that is being referenced. Genesis 3:19 “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth, out of which thou wast taken: for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return.”
  5. Because we ARE Created by God; we are part of God’s family.

Here is a bit I found on the Internet that could help in understanding the son-ship concept from you perspective:

"MercatorNet: Do Muslims believe that they are made “in the image and likeness of God”. If not, does this make a difference?

Morales: Such language is quite incomprehensible for a Muslim. In Islam the relationship between God and man is purely extrinsic. What man can and must do is submit to God. No other relationship is believed to be possible, except in a few mystical and esoteric sects which tend towards pantheism. But this has nothing to do with Islamic orthodoxy."

As has been mentioned before, we believe that we are adopted children of God. This is quite different from the master-slave relationship that is the essence of Islam.
Jesus came to redeem us, ( I believe the Koran states the same thing) opening the possibility of the father-son relationship for all of us. When his disciples asked Jesus how they should pray, he instructed them to begin with the words: “Our father, who art in heaven”.

I believe the apostle John sums it all up for this thread; For all the faithful and those who really seek the Truth of God with their humanity.

1John 3:1-3 See what Love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God!
Yet that is what we are.
]The reason the world does not recognize us
Is that it never recognized the Son.
Dearly beloved,
We are God’s children now;
what we shall later be has not yet come to light.
We know that when it comes to light
we shall be like him,
for we shall see him as he is.

Everyone who has this hope based on him
keeps himself pure, as he is pure.

In summary we cannot be good all by ourselves (humanity) it takes an act of God for man to be good. That is why baptism is a condition that God places on our humanity to be redeemed from our fallen nature so that we are given the grace and power to be good. With out the Holy Spirit no human can be good by himself. Humans by themselves without the Holy Spirit, humanity finds their own justice in killing his neighbor instead of loving his neighbor as God loves us to become His Children, we become partakers of His divinity. No human can become a child of God without baptism in the Lord Jesus Christ.

“For no one goes before the Father without the Son” Jesus Christ.

Peace be with you

You skipped a verse:
Romans 8:15

New International Version (NIV)

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
