When I was young - before I fell away from Christianity - I remember being taught how to ‘evangelize’. There were many classes and motivating speakers on the subject of how to reach the hearts of people.

It all fell down to the ‘Good News’.

We were taught to simply proclaim this; “Jesus died for you.”

We were taught these magic words would turn even the hardest heart.

I fell away from the faith before I was old enough to take those words to the street.

I’m wondering if anyone here who is a convert to Christianity was ever swayed by those words?

Was this evangelization technique effective for you? Just curious. 🙂

Someone put the little book in my hands on the story of Fatima. That 70,000 people came out to an event to see ‘something’, and the sun danced, plus other phenomena, was bigger to me than the parting of the Red Sea. God was here with us, not just thousands of years ago in a story. God used that Fatima story to touch my heart and reveal Himself.

Of course I had a grandma who prayed the Rosary every day for me.

I’m not a convert, but a revert. My whole life I heard that message that Jesus died for me. It wasn’t until this beautiful young woman said to me, “Jesus loves you more than anything” than my heart was pierced! I had forgotten that He died on the cross for me - out of love!

hi Nicky!

Good question and the answer obviously is YES:eek:

But that’s not the end of the story.

God died for us ONLY makes forgiveness of Sins POSSIBLE. It’s not a done deal:shrug:

Mt. 19:17 and John 20:19-23 make this extremely clear.

Stay warm my friend,
Pat

I always thought it was a rather weak method to use in all honesty.

For someone who doesn’t know Christ or Christianity how effective could the ‘some guy you’ve never heard of died for you’ be? Especially when they don’t understand or recognize original sin?

I was just curious to see what would prompt a change of heart at those words, even if one didn’t fully understand Christian theology?

I agree that “Jesus died for your sins” tends to roll off of people’s backs. On the other hand, wrestling with that idea is what got me back into the Church.

I agree with this. A lot of people get turned off by the idea of sin but are starved for a loving God.
