If all of his DNA came from Mary, Jesus would be a twin/clone of Mary. He must have gotten an X chromosome from somewhere. I don’t see why half of the genetic code could not have been created ex nihilo by God.

This was within Mary’s body, He could have rearranged the DNA of one of her cells and inserted it into an egg

All of his DNA came from Mary. He took his whole human nature from her, that is the teaching of the Church.

But that doesn’t mean he would be a clone. God could rearrange the DNA, even create a **Y **chromosome by rearranging base pairs.

Half of the DNA was probably ALREADY in an egg. The other half he could have taken from any cell and rearranged the base pairs how he needed.

This issue is really not a difficulty for the faith.

Oops. I meant Y chromosome. Thanks for catching that. Right, Jesus received his whole humanity from Mary, so I guess the little bits must have been rearranged.

It all comes down to spelling out the implications of “The Word became Flesh.” Fully human: human mind, will, body, bones, flesh, cells, DNA, molecules, etc. It’s all good.

These scientific psuedo-problems do distract, though, from the truly wonderous fact that God chose to become a man.

Gosh - maybe that’s why He walked the earth 2,000 years ago. Today the government would be keeping Him is some lab to experiment on.

Perhaps embyonic stem cell research?

“homo verus ex matre, veram carnem habens ex visceribus matris” could be translated: “true man from the mother, having true flesh from the viscera of the mother”.
