Jesus is Michael the Archangel?

I thought this was a JW teaching but a Mormon informed me he believed this the other day, said it was Jesus “pre-mortal name”. DO both teach that?

I’m confused.:confused:

No, they don’t teach that. Your Mormon friend is poorly catechized. The Mormons believe that Jehovah is the name of the pre-mortal Jesus. Michael is the pre-mortal name of Adam, the first man.

ok I thought that sounded wrong… but it’s been awhile since I studied LDS beliefs so I thought I’d be sure. He is pretty new to being Mormon and already is thinking of leaving. So poor teaching isn’t too surprising.
 
Good, encourage him to leave Mormonism before it destroys his life.

There is far stronger proof that Jesus is divine (Col 1:16 + Is 44:24) than there is for Jesus to be Michael. In fact the best verse the JWs have to “support” that their "Jesus = Michael) teaching is:“The** Lord himself will descend** from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ will rise first.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16)
This is the “strongest” evidence, but that is simply unacceptable reasoning.
