The blesphemy of the media seems to get thicker at this Holy season. Last night I tuned into the National Geographic channel to see a program on the Shroud of Turin. I caught the last 10 minutes of the show that was on before. The premiss was that Jesus and Mary Magdeline were married and had children together. Of course the "scolars’ could find no proof of this but the slant of what I saw was that it would make him more acceptable, more human if he were a “family man”.

has anyone else ever heard of this theory?

By the way, instead of a piece on the shroud as an important relic, the focus was to point out Galileo as the perpetrator of the shroud hoax.

At least I did get a chance to catch part of Jesus of Nazareth late night.

Ever hear of a piece of fiction being tauted by the MSM called The DiVinci Code?

There has been a program on CNN called “The two Marys”. I didn’t watch it, because I knew how it would probably be. Attacking the church is the number one thing of the mainstream media anymore. Some people believe that if a certain theory is shown often enough, it must be true. Sorry Charlie, we know better. Since we have our dish now, I watch either EWTN or the weather channel.

I’ve heard of the Da Vinci Code. I’ve heard it dismissed on BOT radio.

I haven’t read it but the way I understand it if you take every ‘*x’ *letter in the bible it will reveal some secret meaning. I may be way off base but i don’t really feel like putting any energy into understanding it. Or money into the pocket of the publisher.

You are thinking of the Bible Code, the DaVinci code is a fiction novel by Dan Brown that cuts at the core of the Catholic Faith. It was even denounced by the Vatican on Friday.

To the original thread starter:

Mike,

I’ve not only heard of it, but was also annoyed when a movie about that subject came out some years ago. I didn’t bother watching it then, although many people I knew did go, and were rather emotionally upset by it – They liked the actor/actess chemistry too much.
Mary Magdaline, I understand, was made out to be very attractive to Jesus (and of course, the audience).

This is a pretty common theme which tries to undermine Jesus by making him like us in all things, including inappropriate attraction.

(Shields UP captain! 🙂 )

Both National Geographic and the History channel have done specials on “The Da Vinci Code” and concluded exactly what Catholics have known all along: It’s a bunch of hooey. One of the main scholars on the Brown side and co-author of “Holy Blood, Holy Grail”, Richard Leigh, did his interview in a leather jacket, with sunglasses on, and for part of time, while smoking a cigarette. This is the kind of person you trust. But even he realized that some of Brown’s claims are wrong: For example, Brown has a tidy list of things that represent the “sacred feminine”, which he uses to show that the Knights Templar encoded this secret into their Churches. There’s a bunch of inaccurate historical information. catholic.com/library/cracking_da_vinci_code.asp

Many people are desperate to create a “more acceptable” Jesus, because the real one is such a stumbling block, such a folly. We all have two choices, either make Jesus more acceptable to ourselves, or make ourselves more acceptable to Him. The former is so much easier, does anybody wonder why so many prefer it?
