The point is, if one’s sexual urges, or a desire for a mate is too strong, they can opt not to be a priest, and attempt marriage. Trust me, being gay is no comparison by any standard!
I am not gay so I cannot say what urges are more pronounced. I will say this, everyone gets “urges”. Some of a sexual nature, others of different sins. It is not only how we “act”

act [akt]
–noun
  1. anything done, being done, or to be done; deed; performance
but how we dwell on the thought. We can have a fleeting momentary thought and then suppress it. Right, wrong or indifferent, it’s how you play by the rules. If a priest has an “urge” that he can’t control, then he needs to decide what is more important to him.

Have you ever thought that we are tempted by Satan? He knows our weaknesses and knows how to tempt us. Do we overcome with the strength of our faith or do we submit?

This statement grossly oversimplifies the whole issue of homosexuality. Trust me, the last thing it is, is an “urge”. If you’ve ever been in love, you know this.

Satan certainly does tempt us. All of us. There’s been countless times where I wanted to physically rip to pieces anyone who discriminated against others. Especially when they support their bias with lies and ignorance and then use religion as a stamp of approval. Trust me, I’ve been tempted. All of us has.

A person I know who is a practicing methodist said this about the union of a man and woman…What is he thinking?

*Any self-proclaimed “Christian” argument against homosexuality is bogus.

Jesus never mentioned it, ever.

Also, any self-proclaimed “Christian” argument that declares marriage must be defined as “one man and one woman” is also bogus. The Bible clearly and frequently contradicts this notion.

Our modern concept of heterosexual, monogamous marriage is a modern cultural evolution. Polygamy was common during Christ’s time, and he said nothing to forbid it. In fact, the concept of choosing your own mate is a thoroughly modern development. For the vast bulk of Judeo-Christian history, arranged marriage was the norm. And One-Man, One-Woman is a fairly recent
development.

If this is an RC thread, I have a couple of thoughts.
  1. The Church does not condemn same sex orientation. The orientation itself is not a sin. I think the Curia is knowledgeable about the biology of sexual orientation. The Church’s concern is more toward the aspects of sex and procreation which have several proclaimed doctrines which are not likely to be changed.
I suspect that Jesus was talking about homosexual orientation when he talked about eunuchs in the mother’s womb possibly referring to those men who were born lacking the orientation required to be attracted to women and therefore not likely to be actively seeking marriage and children.
  2. The Church does call those that practice the promiscuous “gay life style” to repentance and rightly so. She equally calls the heterosexual promiscuous to repentance. The “if it feels good do it” lifestyle carries its own punishments that may last a lifetime or even result in death. Equally the lifestyle caters to the most base of human character flaws since it denigrates any casual partner to objective status.
(OK, so three thoughts)
  1. What a Christian may not do is assume that if someone is same sex oriented they are somehow incapable of love and deep emotion. What ever a person’s sexual orientation, that person is a child of God and due love, concern and respect.

The biology of same sex orientation is fairly well documented and makes no excuse for those who would cross orientation lines in “thrill seeking”.

Having said that it would seem that there must be reason and purpose in this biological phenomenon. I won’t set myself up as the prime source of any revelation. Just saying it exists so it has to be grappled with.

I think the sex act drive is more of a problem for male same sex oriented people. The human sex drive is coupled to the production and amount of testosterone. Heterosexual drive is countered by androstenedone in women so unless one is brutal we Heteros have the brakes on most of the time (married experience). In the case of male same sex oriented there are two individuals with the same testosterone load. That is by definition going to be harder to deal with if presented with a situation where intimacy is possible. This does not constitute permission but may help in understanding the greater problem faced by homosexual males.

Are you aggravated by him? Or are you aggravted by his position on the matter?

I have no idea what either of you are talking about but I understand Tparsons being aggravated by something someone posted. That has happened to me recently and I can tell you I am suffering from “rightious” :dts: anger. Some posters on these forums are less than Christian, or Christ like in their answers and to postings. They make me gag.
