Is there anyone that has seen this movie? What did you think about it? I think that I have seen parts of it, but it was in front of me at the library so I picked it up. I want to see it and I am looking forward to seeing it.

Thanks for the opinions.

If that’s the one made about 20 years ago and directed by Franco Zefferelli (and I think it is) it’s very good. After The Passion I think that it’s far and away the best “Jesus” movie. All in all very faithful to the Gospels. Very good for kids too.

I watched this over the summer. It was very good. Someone told me that Jesus never blinks during this movie. I’ll have to watch it again to see if it’s true.

Great movie! I think it’s the best of the “Jesus” movies. Concentrates more on his message versus the physical punishment (The Passion).

It is a good one…the only problem is the Hollywood looking Jesus never blinks his eyes.

It is true. His big wide watery blue eyes never blink.
It is now referred to in my home as the Jesus movie with non-blinking Hollywood Jesus.

If you can get past that the rest is quite good. Go ahead and watch it but don’t say anything to your young children viewers…they won’t think anything of it.

LoL-I never noticed that! Must be a way to portray “Otherworldliness”…although Hannibal Lector didn’t blink his eyes in Silence of the Lambs either!..well, he was somewhat “Otherworldly” too–or Netherworldly.

You mean interesting that I’d notice! LoL. Actually I didn’t. I heard Anthony Hopkins talking about it in an interview. He played a pretty decent St. Paul in another 20 something y/o TV movie! Think it was called Peter and Paul…pretty sure he blinked though…

I remember as a child I wanted to watch it when it was on TV. However, my father, who claims to be an atheist, forbid me to watch it (now I see what he was so afraid of). So I had to sneak into our basement and watch on a little 12" black and white we had in the laundry room.

I remember it having a pretty big impact on me and playing a role in my conversion later in life. It was about the closest thing I had to any religious education growing up. Pretty sad huh? 😦

I take back any hint of humor I made of this movie.

I am a cradle Catholic and must say the biggest impression I had was from short soft covered Children’s Gospel books I borrowed from my religious ed. teacher. Important!!! Not many of my peers were borrowing these beautiful books.
What your story and my story say is just how powerful the Gospel message is even in media such as soft covered children’s books and hollywood made movies.
Our determination to hear the word (in book or movie) was a special grace from God. Let’s be thankful.

My favorite movie. I am now on my second VHS copy and also own it in Dvd. I often show it for school to the students. It covers the life of Jesus very well.

There were only two parts that I would question after watching it at least 100 times.

Mary having pain during childbirth, and Jesus the way he responds to Mary when he is found in the temple.

My families favorite part is with Ernest Borginine when he said I am not worthy…

Excellent movie and I will probably watch it another 100 times before I die.

👍 👍 👍

Great movie. My favourite part is where Jesus flips out at the Pharisees in the temple.

“HOW WILL YOU ESCAPE CONDEMNATION!!!”

I enjoyed when he rubbed the dirt on the blind mans eyes and gained his sight. The whole seen was faithful to the Gospels.

I also found the directors presentation of the annunciation interesting.

Jesus of Nazareth is my favorite!!! I have never seen another movie like this one.I’ll never get tired of watching it,it still move me as the first time I watched it back in Spain several years ago.🙂 I will give this movie a million thumbs up.👍

“Jesus of Nazareth” is my favorite movie on the life of our Lord.
It was beautifully done.

I own this movie on DVD and highly recommed it.
Interestingly, my agnostic DH gave it to me as a Christmas present a couple years ago.
He’s so sweet!!
