So, I am sitting here and was reading the gospel (mainly Mark and Luke) and was gazing at Luke 9:18-21. It follows the feeding of the 5,000.This is where Jesus asks Peter and the disciples who the crowds think he is. When Peter replies “the Messiah” it is said Jesus rebukes him and tells them not to tell anyone that. What is the interpretation of that verse? I realize that by this point Jesus had already proclaimed that John was the one who scripture said would prepare the way. So, in what context is this verse to be taken. I know in Rabbi Jesus, by Bruce Chilton, he believes that Jesus was trying to avoid capture (if I remember correctly) but Chilton’s book isn’t exactly orthodox.
I guess passages like this are the prime example why we need a teaching magisterium!
And yes, it’s New Year’s Eve and I’m sitting hear reading the Bible. My wife’s a doc. and on call tonight so it’s me and the kiddies!![Nerd face :nerd: 🤓](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f913.png)
