Is it safe to say that the ice theory is preposterous speculation with no basis in any known historical fact?

Yes it is.
James214, I wrote that wrong. I meant, is it safe to say that the ice theory is preposterous speculation with no basis in historical fact?

“Jesus knew where the rocks were, Peter didn’t.”

Sorry, old Catholic joke, couldn’t resist.

Just about every miracle of Jesus has been questioned and replaced with some naturalistic explanation by those who do not believe. But take a look at the beginning of this account from the Gospel of St. John:

“When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.”

This short passage contains several details: 1) it was evening 2) it was dark 3) a strong wind was blowing and 4) the waters were rough.

You would think if it were actually cold enough that night to produce ice on the lake - an extremely rare if not probably nonexistent situation (the average temperature in Jerusalem in JANUARY is 43 deg F) - the Gospel passage would include that detail as well. Since it doesn’t, it is safe to say that it was not cold enough to produce ice on the lake.

Yes, again, yes, it’s preposterous,

Whomever came up with that theory has too many Roos loose in his top paddock

This?

2:14 How does it help, my brothers, when someone who has never done a single good act claims to have faith? Will that faith bring salvation?

Go to 0:50 - avoiding the snake !

But Jesus raised the dead, cured lepers, people born blind -
all sorts of things - that no one else did.
Raised himself from the dead - is the most miraculous.

Exactly, and to doubt any of this is to doubt the power of God.

Hmmm…never heard the “ice” theory - seems highly improbable. As one poster stated; that would have been more reported and recorded (i.e. more “newsworthy”) than someone walking on water.

I have heard a theory about there being a jetty of some sort which was apparently slightly submerged - I suppose possibly the origin of the “Jesus knew where the rocks were, Peter didn’t” joke.

I have been kayaking on a lake at a local Scout Camp where I live which was formed by a receding glacier. As a result, there are huge boulders in the lake which come up to within inches of the surface. The going ‘prank’ was to have some guy standing on the boulder in the middle of the lake with no kayaks around looking like he was walking on water as a group of younger Scouts came around to that part of the lake. Pretty interesting reactions 🙂 I’m certainly not suggesting this was the case at Galilee (as presumably, the boulders would still be there) - just an interesting anecdote.

The articles include the possibility there were ice floes or chunks of ice.
Jesus did not walk on ice. That would mean the Gospels were wrong. Scripture specifically states he walked on water!!

Jesus had no problem ascending through the air. So no probs walking on water 🐳🌊
